NVlink for two similiar rtx 2080ti cards

Omen

I have one gaming computer with "EVGA RTX 2080ti XC Ultra", and am going to buy or build another system for video editing. For the video editing computer I can purchase the same video card, or get a slightly less expensive "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11GB GDDR6"

The idea is to be able to move cards between both systems, to get more FPS and processing power for video. Video editing is easy, I don't even have to link both cards as it is only about the CUDA cores, I could use different cards. The gaming PC however will require NVLINK and will require identical cards. Will I be able to link EVGA RTX 2080ti XC Ultra and GeForce RTX 20180ti without any issues? Correct me if I am wrong, but all 2080ti cards share the same engine, the differences are in cooling and clock speeds (which can be adjusted).

Thx

The two main factors in whether or not NVLink (or old SLI) will be functional are identical GPU (and I mean GPU as in the actual graphics processing unit silicon die, not necessarily the graphics card as a whole), and PCB size/connector location.

As long as the GPU is the same (TU102-300A-K1 I believe for the 2080 Ti) and the NVLink fingers are exactly in line with each other so the bridge can connect properly it will work.

The only caveat beyond that is that if one of them is clocked slower than the other, they will both run at the slower speed.

Kalm_Traveler1,

Thank you for your reply, I'll check the GPU to make sure both cards match.
