Gsync or bust?

OnionRings

Hey all. I have an RTX 2060, if I want to pick up a nice 144hz display, do I HAVE to get gsync? Or does freesync work with nvidia too? I noticed gsync seems to be more rare and expensive, why?

yes, but only the adaptive refresh rate feature.

other features like low frame rate compensation must exist to meet Nvidia's Gsync requirements, in other words the panels themselves are more capable.

Thank you both. After posting this I actually found some 144hz gsync monitors for 200 and under on Amazon. Hopefully during black Friday they will go even lower, I'd love to step into the high refresh gaming world.

I'm using gtx 1080 with freesync monitor and it works really well there is this fan made list of some fressync  monitors and how well they behave with Nvidia G-Sync compatible mode https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ej9mOe5NamLldpfyFfXrqvLMZP-aG2Zi1su7QzPRNJY/edit#gid=0

it also list min and max frame rates where freesync works on each monitor some have rather high ranges like 40-144hz others less

ps. other list I haven't checked yet but it seems to have some different screens tested https://www.esportstales.com/tech-tips/list-of-nvidia-gsync-compatible-freesync-monitors-tested-by-community
