How to listen to external mic with headphones that have built in mic

Pretty much the title and plus a device that would make it louder when I am listening the microphone

Have you checked "Input Devices" somewhere in the sound settings to see if you can select between 2 available microphones?

I should've also included that this is for a dslr camera rig, not for pc

If your camera has an audio monitoring port, you would plug your headphones in there to check your recording levels. It should be labeled as such, hard to say without knowing the specific camera.
