Here's the issue, had both a IPS Dell and LG monitor in the past, neither had decent black levels, it was more of a really dark grey. Aware IPS monitor are really accessible these days, but was wondering if there are any known good ones out there

There are different qualities of monitors. If you're buying a cheap monitor, you can't really expect the best of the best.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Anyone have any recommendations for monitors under 150 CAD (New or used) that has a really good contrast or atleast really deep blacks?

Wish OLED monitors were a thing already, but there seems to be still a year or 2 till that happens.

Just get something IPS. I find LG and Dell are usually the best. Dell often has sales on their website, but also check out local shops.

list of IPS monitors. i limited it to 130usd which is about $170 cad. there are many good options if you are not trying to get high refresh rate

Why wouldn't you just set it to Canada, and do it that way?

You can't compare pricing the way you did, as it's not the same in different markets. It doesn't directly correlate.

Imo any VA or IPS panel from a reputable manufacturer such as Asus, LG, Benq will do just fine. Find the one you like and ask around on the forum.

True, now that you mention it, one of the monitor was an entry level LG IPS monitor and the Dell Ultra something insert model is backlit by an LCD, was probably good during it's time

  • 3 weeks later...

This was the solution for me, this monitor (EW277HDR) was literally meant for people like me in mind lol

VA Panel and HDR10 Support - $199

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07659Z1QM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just placed an order, had to think twice if I really wanted it, honestly was pretty happy just using my laptop.  More space issues to deal with placing this in a small room.

I have a 2m HDMI 1.4 cable, hope it works on that. Plan to use it on my bed like a laptop  hahaha
