Seagate barracuda doing 500MB/S? Too fast?

i thought the max for this drive was like 190 why is it downloading subnautica so fast not complaining but wondering if its doing my m.2 instead

what do you mean?? is it not installing on my hdd??

 

i just checked the folder is deffo on my hdd and i can hear my hdd pretty loud.

i dont have any sata ssd's in my system just a 1tb sabrent rocket and a 2tb seagate barracuda

That's a broken reading. An HDD is physically not capable of doing such speeds

Any chance you stopped the download earlier?

It might just not install but recheck the already downloaded files which is a lot faster

Definitely just a fucky reading, seeing as the only way you can really get those speeds with HDD's is with good ol RAID 0.

Steam may check existing files (does a checksum and compares checksum with checksum of what's about to be downloaded) and downloads only what's different.

In such case, Steam may basically say it downloaded 1 GB in a couple of seconds (amount it took to calculate the checksum and compare against the remote file).. therefore your download speed is 500 MB/s.

 

Also, there may be compression used when downloading files. For example, the game may have a 1 GB file that contains uncompressed audio samples or textures, so the file could compress to half the size. In such cases you may see download speeds higher than what your network card or internet account allows, like 15 MB/s on a 100mbps plan that allows maximum 12 MB/s
