570 Aorus Elite bricked after bios update

I just finished installing all the drivers on my new x570 gigabyte Aorus Elite, then proceeded to download the latest bios and updated it via USB, using the qflash option on PC startup.

After it was done, the pc just refused to boot.

I thought that was just tough luck, I'd have to wait for the Dual BIOS to do its thing.

Well, for some godforsaken reason, it seems the 570 Aorus Elite doesn't have dual bios.

I then went ahead and tried the qflash plus thing, which is how bios flashback works on gigabyte motherboards.

No luck here as well, I loaded the original bios on a USB stick, stuck it on the rear usb slot marked BIOS, then tried pressing the qflash plus button on the mb, both with the pc on and off (with power connected obviously) and neither option has done anything.

Someone please help!

false, I'm just guessing Q-flash doesn't respond because it's trying to boot your current CPU making it stuck. If there's no CPU it wont do anything

What is your USB formatted to?  Apparently it has to be FAT32 or FAT16 for it to read.  Also, I attached the Unique Features manual for the X570 AORUS ELITE if you haven't already found it.  Pg. 6 shows the exact details on how to get Q-Flash Plus working.

1) Download bios and decompress it

2) Rename it to GIGABYTE.bin

3) Stick it on a fat32 formatted flash drive

4) Insert it into the board and press the button

5) Wait for the light to stop flashing

6) Boot

I had already read that, but thank you!

So, it seems to be working now (currently recovering the bios)

What I changed was the usb drive I was using. Fuck Kingston 32gig usb3 drive.

Fuck it to hell.

Hope this actually works!

If it's 32GB chances are it's formatted in exFAT and not FAT16/32, there is a difference.

It was Fat32, I had read the guide and formatted it accordingly.

So again, fuck it!

Now adding parts back, will let you know if it works.

I was asking because I wanted to know if it was being done "just for the sake of it". Generally there's only 3 reasons to update your BIOS.

  1. Security
  2. Features
  3. Bugs

Outside of those BIOS updates are more likely to make things worse than better.

As for AGESA I think it's naive to say any one developer is incapable of making a mistake and pushing an update that does more harm than good.

I downloaded the new bios from a different server, and used @bios to update this time, board got bricked again.

Honestly, how can Gigabyte be this irresponsible with their bios updates...

At least I know I can fix it and wait for a newer version now -.-

I updated my previous mb's bios all the time and never had this much trouble.

I updated often because I always had issues, and because dual bios made any bios corruption a small matter.

With this one, I may have to rethink things ;(

Likewise. Let me answer that question with another question. Why are we here? Many of the people who post on the forum post because something they did made their computer stop working. Sometimes it's just bad luck other times what they did is ill-advised.

"My computer was too loud so I unplugged my CPU cooler fan now the system shutsdown randomly. Help!" (people like this exist) - What would you tell them? That it's their computer? Do what they want with it? Or are you going to help them and tell them that what they did isn't recommended? That's exactly what I'm doing here.

If I had no interest in helping people and giving advise that could keep their equipment working for longer I wouldn't be an active member on the forum. I would imagine you feel similar.

  • 3 months later...

I had this happen to my x570 Elite as well - much like the OP. I would like to add a little more info to help the next person this happens to - hopefully.

I could not get this to work without the CPU installed. I'm not saying it won't, but it wouldn't for me.

I initially tried to get this to work with a FAT16 drive. The button flashed a couple of times but very quickly stopped - indicating failure. I reformatted the usb stick as FAT32, with the same file on it. And it worked.

A note on how this actually worked for me: I had everything installed (GPU, CPU, RAM). I had power going to the MB. I held down the qflash button while pressing the power on button (while the USB stick is installed to the white USB port) - the qflash began flashing indicating it is working. When it stops flashing, hold the power button until the PC turns off. Remove the USB stick, and power on.

A note on why I think this happened: I can't explain why it happened to the OP. My guess as for why it happened to me is that there is no support for my 1600X in the newest BIOS. It's only a guess, but if that's the case, I really wish they would list CPU changes in the notes section for the BIOS's. If I am wrong, I am at a loss as to why this failed. Like the OP - I've flashed many BIOS's, and haven't had so much trouble pretty much ever.
