RTX 2080 low FPS

Waynelu127

I have a i7900k Processor, and a RTX 2080. I play minecraft with my younger brother and I prefer installing shaders, as minecraft looks too bland to me lol. However the FPS is very underwhelming. I run the server so I dedicate 1-2 GB of RAM for it, but with Sildur Shaders' I get only 60-100 FPS. Meanwhile videos on youtube show RTX 2080Ti's getting 100+ fps at 4k. I only play at 1080p. The RTX 2080 has been underwhelming. Could there be something wrong with my card, is there anything I can do?

2GB of RAM isn't enough even for the operating system, if you're runnin Windows; so that'll be a big issue for your gamin.  It's more of an issue, if you have more things in the background, such as music, voice apps (discord, ventrilo, etc), web browsers (chrome eats up RAM) w/many tabs, etc.

Primary

OS:        Windows 10 - Professional (64-bit)

CPU:      i9-10900k 3.7-5.3GHz (10th gen)

GPU:      EVGA RTX 3080ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming 12gb

MB:         ASUS RoG Maximus XIII Hero (ATX)

RAM:      64gb (4x16) DDR4-3200MHz G.Skill TridentZ Silver/Black (CL16)

               2x 16TB Seagate Exos 7200rpm (HDD)

PSU:       EVGA 1000w G2, 80+ Gold (modular)

I meant I have 1-2 GB of RAM for the server. I have 16GB my bad.

A few things I have tried when my rig underperforms -

-Setting power saving mode to ultra performance (even in a desktop)

-Going into Control Panel of Nvidia to make sure its using the GPU and not the cpu's grpahics.

-Checking overclocks and drivers

-Using RivaTuner (or any other monitoring software) to see utilization and clocks to further see what is throttling/under performing

Hope this helps.

You might also check the minecraft forums to see if there is something preventing your PC from performing higher. As far as I can say, don't blame the card, it shouldn't be "underwhelming"

Edit: one more thing, the minecraft video settings have a setting for fps limit which I reduced without reading it back when I first started playing. Maybe check that too

Isn't Minecraft more CPU bound anyway? Not sure if you only have the shaders or not but running a server (especially modded) will pose a challenge to your CPU.

A girl who loves to love.
