if you are streaming and CPU encoding. wait for Zen 2. its right around the corner. if you cant wait

these CPUs are better to buy:

  • r5 1600/x
  • r7 1700/x
  • r7 1800x
  • r7 2700/x

the 8400 is not the CPU you want to be going for, but the best option is waiting for Zen 2.

~15% higher IPS, higher clocks, more cores, lower thermals (compared to the same number of Zen or Zen+ cores)

Apparently they will support 4 - 4.5 Ghz, i have not really looked into AMD much (due to a personal understanding that they have better performance than intel when by themselves but less when paired with a GPU) but if the prices are quite nice i might build an amd system for my lounge (low level VR, Gaming and internet searching), but that all depends on how much it will end up costing and how small a case i can build it in

more of everything essentially over Zen 1.

more clocks, more cores, more, more, more.

for reference. in January they showed of an ES "beating" (functionally a tie) a 9900k in cinebench while consuming significantly less power.

offcourse it is just Cinebench and its directly from AMD, but still.

To simplify it down Zen was the 1st released generation of Ryzen, so Ryzen 1200, 1600, ect. While Zen 2 will be Ryzen 3XXX and is coming out in July. The current size of transistors is 14nm, while Zen 2 will drop this to 7nm so we should see a very large bump in performance across the board. Even if you don't want to wait for Zen 2, there are better options than the i5 8400 as mentioned earlier of you haven't already gone out and bought it.

Pascal NVENC is really not as good as Turing's... with a 1070 vs the UHD 630 it's actually the same... performance and quality wise, so it doesn't matter really
