For the keyboard that Im interested in I have the choice between cherry mx red switches and silver switches, which would be better? Ill be using the keyboard primarily for typing. Im also assuming they feel the same?

They are roughly the same, minor differences.

I wanted to joke by writing MX-4 (which is a thermal paste).

the silver is just the red but with 1.2mm actuation right? Would that make a real world difference when typing or gaming?

I wouldn't buy either for typing - traditionally, browns are considered better for typing because of their tactile bump - you can really feel where the key press actuates and not have to push it all the way down.

However if I had to choose one it'd be the red, because I'd be afraid of accidental keystrokes

Both have the same 45cN actuation force, but the Silvers reach this force at 1,2mm travel, vs 2mm on the Red. So the spring on the Speed is harder. The Silvers also bottom out at 3,4mm, vs 4mm.

Switches are personal preference, but if you want linear switches, you're probably better off with pretty much any other option that's not from Cherry. Check out Gaterons and Kailh Box switches.

I use a keyboard similar to mx browns (romer g) and I dont really notice the tactile bump since I always bottom out so I dont think I would notice them with mx browns

It's not *that* similar (according to Linus). Anyhow, if there's a store where you can check and see, that would be best

The MX red 2mm actuation is already short enough, I even sometime accidentally activate a key which I dont want to because I slightly touched it and activeted it.. Very prone to get typos
