Massive Ping Spikes in the 1000's

Hey so basically whenever I am playing a game or whatever my ping randomly spikes up into the thousands. This is very annoying. This never happened before it only started about 2 weeks ago. Also, I ran a test on Dsl reports and my buffer bloat was an F. If that helps anyone. Please leave your suggestions. Thanks!

As long as nothing has changed on your end, I suspect it's an external factor, so contact your ISP to have them troubleshoot with you, since you say it changed 2 weeks ago, or switch ISPs if that's an option.

hm ok thanks. Um what would I say to my ISP? Do I say that I have massive ping spikes? Also is there anything I can to to try and fix this?

Exactly - you explain that everything was fine up until 2 weeks ago, but now you're suddenly seeing massive ping spikes when playing online games. Of course, they may have you run through the basics: reboot your PC, reboot your router + modem, factory reset your router + modem, is it affecting multiple games or just some, how do websites load for you, how is streaming video for you, etc.

 

While an ISP simply provides connectivity and isn't responsible for troubleshooting 3rd party services, they should at least run through some basic checks to prove that their service is working properly for say 9/10 games, which will point to that last 1/10 game that is the culprit. If they're not willing to do the bear minimum, find another ISP, or look into upgrading the modem and/or router.
