Is the Corsair VS 550w alright

BeePee

So my current computer is alright and I'm buying a 1440p 144hz monitor so I'm upgrading the gtx 1060 to a 2070. I have a vs 550w and an i5-8400 so will my PSU still be alright? (It has sufficient wattage but many think the vs series are a poor choice but as my system was a gift and I don't have the money or time to replace the PSU unless its needed.)

Highly recommended to get a better quality PSU.

The Corsair VS is NOT a good PSU and a poor match for gaming systems.

If you are buying a 2070 then you need to get a quality PSU to run it.

And getting a new monitor too?

But don't have the money to get a good PSU?

So you're looking at spending around $600+ on a graphics card, plus probably another $500 on a monitor...

Thee VS series from Corsair is a budget orientated unit which uses a group regulated design. It's not really suitable for high end graphics cards like the RTX 2070. It'll work, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you can afford to spend $1000+ on upgrading your monitor and graphics card, you can afford a new PSU.

Wattage is fine, you'd just be better off with a better quality PSU. A decent dc-dc PSU will only set you back $50-$70. What country are you buying in?

No, because that's almost 10 years old.

What country? Availability and pricing will vary depending on if youre in Asia, Europe, America, etc... If you have an older be quiet unit I would guess somewhere in Europe? You could look at the be quiet pure power 11 series which is better quality and good value.

You can get the pure power 11 CM 500w for around 60 pounds.

If you don't mind spending a bit extra, the Corsair RM550x and bitfenix whisper m are also good picks around $75-80 pounds.

Yes, but, all of the recommended ones would have been great choices as well. : o) He just can't choose wrong if he sticks to the mentioned (StraightPower, PurePower11, Bitfenix Formula, WhisperM, Seasonic Focus Plus Gold, Corsair RMx. All of these are fine picks.☺️ I often recommend them (esp. Bitfenix, Seasonic and BQ due to availability and pricing in my native land. Unfortunately corsair units are very overpriced around here..)

The RTX-2070 and i5 deserves a psu of that quality!?

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

True... But you can't always take for granted that people will listen to the advice given, especially when it comes to PSUs. I've seen people get given perfectly good advice and then come back and say things like "okay, thanks for your help everyone. I ended up buying an EVGA N1 750w... Is this a good PSU?" And it makes you slam your head on the desk.

I see, and experience that quite frequently.

Hungary, here, recommendations are dominated by Bitfenix-Seasonic-BeQuiet on mid-price level and FSP on budget units.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
