Is it possible to play a game and watch a video on an ultrawide at the same time?

Like the title states, is it possible?

 

I'm in a dilemma. I want to run a multi- monitor setup, but I'm not sure if I want to do an ultrawide and a portrait, or do 2 landscapes and a portrait.

 

If I do an ultrawide, I think it would look much more seamless and clean, but I may run into a problem if I want to surf the internet while playing games on the ultrawide at the same time. Which is where my question comes about. Thinking if i should split the ultrawide so that I can run two separate windows on it at the same time.

 

Alternatively, I can just solve this problem by getting 2 landscapes instead, and run a game on one and youtube on the other. But will the experience be as good as a single ultrawide?

 

I also worry that I might just be thinking too much, and end up spending too much money for some extreme use cases just to not use it at all and waste the space and money. So would be good if people with similar setups / experiences can guide me along.

 

Hope someone can answer my questions. The portrait is non-negotiable, I want it at the side for reddit browsing and pdf (productivity). I'm thinking of either getting a 34 / 42 inch ultrawide or getting 2 x 27 inches monitors.

An ultrawide is 21:9, so if you've got your main window 16:9, you're left with 5:9, which would not look so good. Personally I just use an ultrawide and a 16:9 monitor of similar height right next to it, works pretty well.

If you get the super ultrawides than it's basically two 16:9 monitors together which would work great and look seamless

Hmm...if you were me, what would you do? Portrait for sure, like I mentioned. Would you get an 2 27 inch monitors or a 34 inch ultrawide and another 27 inch monitor?

 

An alternative I thought of, since I feel like I probably won't use the 27 inch much if I get the 34 inch ultrawide, is to just stream any videos I might want on a tablet like the iPad Pro by the side of the table.

 

Just a quick note, I also intend to plug in a laptop and use the monitors as a secondary display. I was thinking ultrawide PiP (picture in picture) might be good for those cases.

haha your title made it sound like your computer is a potato and would have enough ram to run a few tasks at once, but anyways i do that most of the time on my ultrawide (34 inch) but i make my game abit longer (so its not half half)

This probably, but I would also consider if a third monitor is even necessary if I've got a secondary for media.

Haha you're right. So you mean you run the game in 16:9 right? But like someone just said previously, does that mean you're left with 5:9 for whatever task you're doing? Is it good for whatever you're doing, and would you recommend it?

If you run game borderless window or just plain window, you would be able to use rest of screen for other things.
