Does anyone know what kind of weird coordinate system is used here, and how I convert it to the DD standard? Example: Hässelby torg 3 (Sweden), 141083,8605 6583557,276 27,103488

In a kind of interesting twist to navigation technology, LORAN (longe-range navigation) stations may actually come back online over the next couple of years to serve as back-up to GPS. The main reason is that GPS signals (which supplanted LORAN completely in 2010 in the US and Canada) are susceptible to interference and jamming due to their low signal strength, where as LORAN operating at higher strength would be a lot harder to jam without a massive installation. In the US, a recent funding bill for the Dept. of Homeland Security for 2018 that passed the House of Representatives called for the construction of enhanced LORAN stations to complement and backup the existing GPS system and South Korea is planning to have three active eLORAN stations online by 2019. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/08/radio-navigation-set-to-make-global-return-as-gps-backup-because-cyber/ While the cost to build and maintain these stations may be expensive, this is a great idea as there are a lot of issues with relying solely on space based signals for navigation. If anything, this can help to improve accuracy of navigation systems. Also helps to point out that just because a tech or tech concept is old, doesn't necessarily mean that it is still without a use... In news coming out of the ION GNSS+ conference in Portland, OR today, Broadcom has announced that they will be launching their new BCM 47755 GPS chip and it should be in some smartphones in 2018. What makes this interesting (at least to me) is that this new chip uses both the L1 and L5 signal from GNSS satellites to refine it's accuracy from the current 5-meter accuracy down to 30-cm accuracy. While still not good enough to measure the motion of tectonic plates, this level of accuracy should improve your road navigation abilities quite drastically as your phone will be able to tell more accurately whether you are on a main road or an access road. In addition to all of this, they are also proposing a 50% power savings from these chips over the previous receivers, which should definitely help to improve battery life. https://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/semiconductors/design/superaccurate-gps-chips-coming-to-smartphones-in-2018 I'm personally looking forward to this as it should help to develop some better mapping applications that can be phone based as opposed to having a separate high accuracy receiver. Hello LTT Community, The other day I was driving and I was using the Waze app as a GPS... then I got a struck of genius: We need Linus to make voice samples for GPS! I just imagined myself driving around with Linus as my guide saying "On the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit boiiiiiii", "You just arrived, that's lit!" and other Linus jokes... you know? Do we need to start a petition? Do we need a Luke version? Do LTT needs it's own GPS app?! Will it run minecraft?! Nah seriously, it's off-topic... but fun to think about So have a fun day y'all!

Hey all, I'll be going on vacation in a few weeks, making a 7 hour trip. My car doesn't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and I'd like to use my iPhone SE for GPS and traffic monitoring. I have a phone mount that hooks to my air vent, so I can see the screen whatever phone I put into there. However, I was wondering what would be the best day to maintain the iPhone battery life. Would it be better to: 1) Use the iPhone SE hooked up to a car mount while using an app like Waze, Google Maps or Apple Maps with the screen always on 2) Use the iPhone SE as a Personal HotSpot and use an older phone I have as the GPS. I have an LG Leon that I wiped, so it doesn't have anything extra running on it. I guess it comes down to whether my battery will last longer as a HotSpot or if the screen on/GPS on will be better. Any input or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

And another incident of the industry flooding the market with cheapo devices without thinking the security road through fully. This time it's really frightening, because it endangers children. Some parents give their offspring smart, gps trackable devices to monitor their whereabouts. Although there is discussion about whether that's a good or bad thing, it definitely gets much, much worse when these devices are smarter than they need to be and not secure at all. Norwegian security researchers analyzed such GPS-enabled smartwatches, and the results are bad: A summary: https://www.mnemonic.no/news/2017/watchout/ Article from the researchers: https://www.forbrukerradet.no/side/significant-security-flaws-in-smartwatches-for-children Both webpages include demonstrational videos of the findings. (The german website where I stumbled upon this topic first: https://www.golem.de/news/gps-tracking-kindersmartwatches-sind-ein-datenschutz-desaster-1710-130818.html) The Forbrukerradet article says: Some of the failings are: Better turn off those devices for now until the manufactures provide secure firmware. And hope, that they will do this at all. P.S.: I do not know, whether these devices are also sold in North America, but I assume, that the devices that are available there might have similar flaws. Maybe somebody should check them up as well.

When I am using Google Maps on my phone I have to leave the device on the entire time otherwise if I put the phone to sleep/turn screen off the GPS loses signal and does not respond anymore. I have the S9+ Black SM-G965U1. I wanted the black one with lots of storage so I got the US one and am currently using in Canada. I wouldn't think that would be an issue since my previous Nexus 6P international edition seemed to work just fine. I either need to know how to allow Maps to run in background or if there is a setting that is turning everything off and select Maps as an exception. I hope it is as simple as that. Appreciate the help.

Best Live/Real-Time GPS Locator App?
WallacEngineering posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
So I'm a truck driver, and my girlfriend is interested in following my adventures to see where I'm at, seeing as I am a national driver and I have already done trips from California to Pennsylvania. She can see where I'm at on Facebook since I have "Nearby Friends" turned on, however it takes time for her to see this update and its very basic. We would like a way for her to pull up Google Maps, but see my location, and watch my little arrow go just like using navigation. Any ideas on this? -
Hello, I'm curious to know if anybody here uses a tablet as a "standalone" Waze gps. If so, what tablet are you using? I'm looking for something relatively cheap, with a good screen, built in gps, bluetooth, and wifi connectivity (i plan to use both waze and spotify with this tablet through my phone's hotspot). I won't be using this tablet for much else so it doesn't need to be the fastest around. I plan to mostly stream music from it, so it doesn't need a lot of storage; my music library i keep downloaded is pretty small. My car does not have usb connectivity to the radio, so as stated it must have bluetooth connectivity for my speakers. I'm not partial to any particular brand, just want to make sure its a reputable brand with good software support (for future waze and spotify app updates, don't want a product at end of life). Thank you for your assistance and recommendations.

I'm looking to get a fitness tracker or smart watch, but I have a few must-haves which seem to be met by some of the Garmin accessories, so I'm hoping someone here has experience with them. The things I need in a device like this are the following: Always-on display GPS Water resistant enough to swim Receive text alerts At least 2 days of battery life without the GPS The ones I'm looking at now are the Vivosport and Vivoactive 3. Thanks!

I've been looking at smartwatches for a while now but I am so undecided on what to get, so i would like to ask you guys for help please I'm currently using an S7 Edge, with plans to change my phone in December and I have been looking at the ticwatch e/s. I have some criteria and questions for/about smartwatchs; -Features; -Wear Os, Samsung watches look great and have amazing features (like the rotating bezel) but the tizen OS is limited in apps -GPS -Waterproof for swimming would be preferable -Decent battery life, at least 1 full day of moderate use -NFC Questions; -Do all Wear Os watches have a physical keyboard to reply to messages? -Can you view basic web pages on a smartwatch I know Samsung are supposedly putting Wear Os on their S4 watch and I am curious to see what the rumoured pixel watch will be like, So I was maybe looking at the Ticwatch e/s to just dip my toes in the smartwatch area, but does anyone know if the ticwatch have a keyboard on screen for message replies? Any and all recommendations would be great regardless of price, even if some above features are excluded. Also I have ruled out a few already; Samsung watches, Fossil Q , Fitbit, Huawei Watch 2. Thanks in advance

I've seen that Linus and Alex are getting confused when it comes to "physically" drawing a line over 2 distant locations (well, yeah I've watched the video and that's why I'm here to give suggestions Here I have a decent suggestion on how to do that properly 1. get GPS coordinate of 2 desired locations How?https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=49.27745%2C-122.91886#map=17/49.27745/-122.91886 find a location, erase the input on the top left, and click"where it is?" (can someone tell me how to switch the language on this thing?) and you get latitude+longitude 2.use http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/calculators#bearing input 2 sets of lat,lon data, and get distance&bearing e.g see the"initial bearing"? Use it 3. Use the magnetic compass on your phone, perform fine-tuning of angle with the help of that 4.Done And that's how you do decent alignment efficiently and accurately @AlexTheGreatish @LinusTech I hope this helps if you would ever need to do something similar in the future

Hey everyone, I'm trying to write a class that can convert GPS time to UTC and account for leap seconds. I understand the basic math, and have a table built with all of the leap second dates so I can *math* correctly. The issue I'm running into is within Java. I cannot output UTC at 60 seconds. The first leap second was June 30th 1981. So time should be 1981-06-30 23:59:59, 1981-06-30 23:59:60, 1981-07-01 00:00:00. However, I'm not able to figure out how the heck this actually happens? I have the GPS seconds as follows: 46828799 for 1981-06-30 23:59:59 46828800 for 1981-06-30 23:59:60 46828801 for 1981-07-01 00:00:00 However, I'm only able to get UNIX Epoch seconds of 362793599 for both 23:59:59 and 23:56:60, and 362739600 for 00:00:00. Like there isn't anything in between to account for the conversion. In the event of a required GPS event occurring on a leap second (and requiring it to be forced for successful testing), how can I actually get this to occur? I have tried using LocalDate, Calendar, and Date with no success of being able to get 23:59:60 to be acceptable. I thought Unix Epoch counted for leap seconds, but I am not getting this result to *proof* itself.... Any insight or guidance would be great. Never knew time would be so hard.

Hi. I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 earlier this week, but every time I try and use GPS on data, it doesn't connect. I use GPS for Pokemon Go. The strange thing is that it works on WiFi so I know that it isn't the signal, but it does not want to work on data. My data does work too. I tested it in the AFL app. Any help would be appreciated, as I want to play Pokemon Go again :P. Thanks, Alpha.

I live in a small town with only 4 Pokemon gyms. The problem that we have is that a lot of people from nearby cities are GPS spoofing their Pokemon go game, and taking over our gyms with high level Pokemon. For example, I took over a LV 7 gym today at a local ballfield. Right after I captured it for my team ( go instinct) a player took it over from me and dumped a 2400cp charzard ( Fing valor). I look around, and nobody is even within sight, and there are no houses close by. Go to battle it, and boom, it's now a level 4 gym with many 1000+ CP Pokemon. All trainers with similar names. Again, nobody within 1km of me. There is currently no way to report these dicks, and they are ruining the fun for our rual town.

Hi. My work mate, a professional driver, has a dilemma. Is there more value in a smartphone with a navigation app or with a dedicated device like TomTom or Garmin. It seemed to me that the smartphone has better screen and it has more purpose. Or is there better signal perception with the dedicated device or what are the advantages or disadvantages. Any experience? Advice? I personally love my G4 as a gps hooked to my plug all day. Got everywhere I needed to be. Thanks
