Mackie reacted to GuiltySpark_ in Ryzen 7700 (Non-X) RAM compatibility
If you want to minimize complications, buy an EXPO kit. If anything opening all the Zen4 memory issues threads has told me.
My GSkill 6000CL30 EXPO kit has been flawless.

Mackie reacted to HumdrumPenguin in Ryzen 7700 (Non-X) RAM compatibility
I use G. Skill Neo RGB 2x16gb 6000 CL32 on AMD EXPO with a 7700x and an ASUS Strix X670E-E board. It’s rock solid. If it helps, the rest of my PC specs can be viewed by visiting my profile.

Mackie got a reaction from An0maly_76 in PC wont restart - but will boot from cold start
I was using an old board which was 4-pin only. And when my brother built his PC I gave him the 8pin CPU cable .... So it did have one - I just gave it away 🤣

Looks like I need that cable. Thank you. I'll update here when I get it

You could try, but I can almost guarantee they'll say no, and I'd bet even if they said yes the replacement would be the same. Some manufacturers just have slight overhangs on their matte layer.

Look under the status of the connected devices.

Mackie reacted to Electronics Wizardy in New AP - Slow 2.4GHz performance... HELP
Yup.
80mb/s seems fine. That seems to be a wireless n 2x2 connection at 20mhz.You can expect about half the phy speed in real world uses.

Mackie reacted to Electronics Wizardy in New AP - Slow 2.4GHz performance... HELP
2.4g just limlits you to using less band space, so you have lower speeds is the simple answer.
Here is more info if you wanna read up

Mackie reacted to Najuno in Laptop Suggestions for College
Mhhm sorry I am not so much into Laptops these days but 300-500 € and decent... that´s not working for desktop so I guess I´ll be difficult for a laptop .
If I had to go with that budget I´d be probably looking for the fastest CPU I can get and upgrade later down the road RAM and an SSD...

Mackie reacted to SpyRosL in Need suggestion for Micro ATX (i5 4670k)
MackieEVERY motherboard is for both nvidia and AMD.So yeah, don't worry about it.
I think you read it only supports 2 video cards only with AMD(crossfire). That's a whole different story.

Let's answer your questions first...
What is a VRM?
VRM stands for Voltage Regulation Module. It's job, essentially, is to maintain a constant voltage to the Processor, AND to lower or increase the voltage accordingly
What is a VRM issue?
The issue is when the VRM's get too hot when operating, causing the motherboard to trigger its safety feature, and throttling the VRM's down. As a result, the proper voltage needed by the Processor can no longer be obtained, therefore, the Processor will, too, throttle down in speed OR becomes unstable.
Why do I need a new motherboard for a FX-8320 / FX-8350?
The VRM's on the ASUS M5A87L-M USB motherboard is not capable of maintaining proper voltage for the higher power requirement needed by the FX-8320 / FX-8350 Processors. It only has 4+1 VRM's to do the job.
Plus, there is no method of cooling (typically a big a heatsink) on those toasty chips to keep them running at an acceptable temperature.
It is suggested that you pair a FX-8320 / FX-8350 with a motherboard with a VRM design of 6+2 or better to have the Processor operate properly. This is even more important if you are considering in overclocking the Processor.
What motherboard is suitable?
The improved VRM design is typically found on higher-end motherboards. These motherboards also tend to have improved cooling, more options for expansions/upgrades, and more features. They will also usually use the higher tier 990X and 990FX chipsets.
Of course everything comes at a price.
The ASUS M5A87L-M USB motherboard that you are currently using is an entry-level board based on the much older 760G chipset. It is priced around the $60 - $80 USD price range.
990X or 990FX motherboards begin at about $120...and can range up to $230 / $240.
If you are going to upgrade the CPU, and will need to get a new motherboard regardless, I would suggest that you switch over to an Intel platform. As stated by others, MMO games are more CPU-dependant and runs better on a Processor that has better IPC (instructions per cycle), and use only a few cores. For that reason, something like a six-core FX-6300, or an eight-core FX-8350 would not suit you well.
It would be a better choice to switch to an Intel platform, and go with any of the following options:
i5-4670K Processor + Z87 Motherboard (if you plan to overclock or use multiple graphics cards) i5-4670K Processor / Devil's Canyon Processor + Z97 motherboard (if you plan to overclock or use multiple graphics cards. Better upgrade path...hint, devil's Canyon / Broadwell?) i5-4670 / i5-4570 Processor + Q87 / H87 Motherboard (Single graphics card, no overclocking) -
Mackie reacted to Faa in Upgrading from Fx4130, Need some advice (noob alert)
Meh you kinda disappointed me, especially someone with your knowledge & intelligence (not kidding). A 8320 isn't going to do any better than a 4300 in GW2 and surely not in Dayz whatever he mentioned, to sum up a 8320 isn't an upgrade path at all for him. GW2 still pushes an octacore to 50% but that's it all you need for this game is a 4670k. There's a huge difference between a 4670k & any AMD in GW2, not just slightly.
Which is irrelevant, no gpu loads = means nothing.

No, the cores are up to twice as fast. The integrated graphics is just a bonus, you can use it for recording, streaming, encoding video's much faster without taxing the cpu at all (except encoding). For 3D games the integrated graphics on AMD's side is better but since you have a discrete card theyre irrelevant for you.
