The pitchforks were raised because for the past 2 years criticism was met with pushback before actual correction. The whole reacting first then giving rational thought later is bad PR. I get it, i love watching the wan show and hearing your oppinions raw, but in these situations you need to tread carefully.
What happened to old linus i knew, the one who would listen to feedback and put emotions aside. The one who would make an effort when correcting videos, even for comedic ones like the cheap onn tv video where there is a jumpcut clarifying something minor.
The linus I see now is one who immediately sees criticism as people out to get him first, and while i get that toxic people are out there, most of the time their criticisms maybe have an ounce of truth that should be considered fully. I also see someone who cares more about opportunity cost than making quality videos first.
And i get it, LTT is massive, but the goals of LTT should remain constant, making the best videos possible, reguardless of how size and scale changes. If anything impedes on making quality videos, maybe it should be taken a closer look at.
Saying that LTT is going through growing pains works maybe once or twice. But i would think that the next GPU or CPU review would have way more time spent ensuring mistakes dont happen again. In the past, egregious mistakes often have the video taken dowm, and a corrected video be issued. This is no longer the case, and it rings a "but we will lose momentum in the algorithm" concern that causes the video to stay up. Sometimes, its better to eat the loss instead of trying to maintain profit, like that time you messed up pricing for a product at NCIX and instead of canceling orders, your boss telling you to honor the orders and eat the loss.
And look, i understand a big company like yours has miscommunication all the time, but the moment you saw it start to impact the quality of videos, the issue should have been addressed then and there instead of sweeping it under the rug. Using the whole "our company is growing" as a scapegoat only works so much. Its time to take drastic action, and actually take responsibility rather that point to a nebulous term.
Watching the GN video, typing this response was very hard for me to do. The last GN video about TMB i didnt agree with, as i felt it didnt consider the human element in that situation, but this is different. Im a big fan, i own the OG Swacket, mousepad, waterbottle, and have ltt stickers everywhere. Been watching the channel for 8 years. But seeing the GN video, but more specifically this response that just sang the same tones as every other response to a mistake LTT has made, felt like a stab in the chest.
All i ask for is i guess affirmative action at this point rather than using the same scapegoat. Taking a pause and iorning things out. I hope someone at LTT reads this, and doesnt pass me off as a hater, rather a deeply dissapointed fan.
You being a ham sandwich would actually explain a lot to be honest 😛
Bad jokes aside, the question of whether or not Steve is a journalist is completely irrelevant to the discussion actually. Finding angles to attack him on, however many you find, does not change what Linus did wrong in this situation and what has been going wrong at LMG. In fact, Steve could be a professional clown and these issues would still persist.
Again with the double standard ... everything Steve reported on, was publicly available information, too - he just pointed it out to his viewers. Wouldn't logic dictate then that no ethical violations have been committed by GN here, because I could have found out about all of this by myself?
First of all, the whole Billet Labs stuff is completely absurd if true. I don't think they would intentionally sell something they couldn't, probably some massive fuck up in communications happened between the team responsible for sending it back and the people choosing the items to be auctioned, but it's still a huge issue and 100% LTT's responsibility to fix it and make sure something like this never ever happens again.
About the rushed content, it's something that a lot of times crosses the border of "fun jank" to being just frustrating. Every single project they do seems to be rushed, unfinished, untested and plagued with issues and oversights. And that could be their content "brand", seems like many people enjoy the jank. But if they now want to present themselves as serious testers, someone the community can look up for reliable data with Labs, that mindset needs to change, FAST. How the hell can I trust someone who has to correct themselves almost every video? And makes errors that a basic review of the content could catch?
You need to pump out 7 videos a week? Sure buddy, but maybe allow more time sensitive projects to be properly planned, executed and reviewed and throw some "here's 10 fun crap we found on aliexpress" videos to make up for it.
If legitimate criticism of how a company's testing methodology resulting in errors is considered an attack, then I'm not sure what else to say besides it not being one.
Here's the thing, if you want to be a lab, and you want to be held to lab standards, then you open your methods and data to scrutiny, which is what GN is doing here. LMG has the ability, and the right to respond to these allegations by re-running the tests to reproduce the data if they want to stand by it, but they aren't. GN's video isn't an attack, it's a flashlight on some of LMG's recent practices that have dubious ethical standings that need to be addressed.
I dont remember when it happened but they were bought, and since it has been downhill. But yeah they were already slowly dying with all their financial issues.
Part of the problem is they dont update or work on their "service" but we all let it slide because it worked ok enough even if still terrible. The other part being they charge quite a bit for the hardware that if you looked inside would realize is almost all profit! But yes, at the end of the day most will be most upset about them promising from the beginning no fees ever. I feel like this may have just killed their company if they reverse it or not, blood is already in the water.

US Treasury Department says PayPal failed to adequately screen and prevent transactions
includes a $7,000 transaction from someone listed by US gov’t as involved in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction
PayPal said they had “voluntarily” reported to the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac) certain payments between 2009 and 2013
delays in scanning allowed some prohibited payments to be completed
“Since then, we’ve taken additional steps to support compliance with Ofac regulations
one case involved Kursad Zafer Cire, named by US State Dept in 2009 as being linked to weapons of mass destruction
PayPal reportedly processed 136 transactions to or from account registered to his name
other payments involved goods and services going to and from Cuba, Sudan, and Iran
according to Treasury Department, nearly 500 transactions worth almost $44,000 had potentially violated sanctions that ban US companies from doing business with individuals or organisations on a blacklist
Elon Musk: “Burning fossil fuels is the dumbest experiment in history, by far”

was in a conversation with Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson
“If we don’t find a solution to burning oil for transport, when we run out of oil, the economy will collapse and society will come to an end.” Musk
“If we know we have to get off oil no matter what, we know that is an inescapable outcome, why run this crazy experiment of changing the chemical composition of the atmosphere and oceans by adding enormous amounts of CO2 that have been buried since the Precambrian Era? That's crazy. That's the dumbest experiment in history, by far.”
Tyson sounded surprised: "Can you think of a dumber experiment?" he asked Musk.
"I honestly cannot. What good could possibly come of [staying on oil]," Musk said.
of course Musk has a vested interest in clean energies becoming the norm based on his current investments and companies, but I think it’s safe to say that he is very knowledgeable in this area
difficult to make change in the US because of the influence the oil giants have on the politics and economy
Dissecting G-Sync and FreeSync - How the Technologies Differ
Source 1: linustechtips.com - dissecting g sync and freesync how the t OP: Werto165
Source 2: pcper.com - Dissecting G Sync and FreeSync How Technologies Differ
“it’s more than just a branding issue”
40-144Hz both offer “pure variable frame rate” where the refresh rate of the display matches the game’s frame rate
above 144fps both go into a V-Sync state (as long as you enable V-Sync in FreeSync)
below 40fps they shift
FreeSync keeps the refresh rate static as frame rate dips below 40Hz
causes a combination of stutter and frame tearing (if V-Sync is off)
G-Sync starts doubling refresh rate and inserting duplicate frames starting at around 37 FPS
continues until game frame rate hits 19/20 FPS where a third frame is inserted and refresh rate is increased again
effectively G-Sync has no bottom window for variable refresh and produces the same result as if the display was going to the lower refresh rates without artifacting or flickering
possible that AMD could implement a similar doubling algorithm for FreeSync at the driver level without the need for an external module
Radeon GPUs have the ability to send out a duplicate frame based on what frame rate it is rendering at
this would require a great deal of cooperation between panel vendors and AMD
