Dalli got a reaction from Slayerking92 in How do I access this old HDD?
Hi there, I just got bored and decided to start up my old desktop from +10 years ago, unfortunately it didn't boot. So I removed the HDD hoping I can plug it and access what's on it. But this is my first time dealing with HDD... I don't know what those 2 ports types and which cables do I need to plug in the HDD and to my modern B450M DS3H mobo. Appreciate your help!

    That's all!

If you still have the box your motherboard came in, check that first before you buy anything. Motherboards usually come with at least a couple SATA cables.

Yeah, the sata data cable can be labeled sata 2 or sata 3, doesn't matter.

Correct, SATA revisions are more dependent on the onboard controller. Really old SATA cables still do SATA 3

Edit: how about using the old SATA cable from the old desktop? It must have a couple

    thanks for both of you.
I have SATA3 ports on my mobo, so I should buy a SATA cable (doesn't matter if they are SATA 2 or 3, if that even exists for cables?) and plug in the HDD, then take the other port and plug in the larger SATA power connecter from my PSU. Hope I m not missing anything else!

A regular SATA data cable connects the drive to a SATA port on your motherboard - check the manual just in case some SATA ports are disabled if you have M.2 SSDs installed, if so avoid the SATA ports mentioned in the manual.  If you have no SATA drives currently, you should still have some SATA cables in the box the motherboard came in.
The power supply will have SATA power connectors - you plug one of those connectors in the wider section of the hard drive connector

Both connectors are keyed, they have a L shape, so you can only insert the plugs one way, don't force it.

That's just a SATA hard drive. You connect it the same way you connect a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Ignore the little two-pin connector. That's for manufacturing and low-level access to the controller. You don't need to touch it.

     Cooler Master HYPER 212 SPECTRUM

Are ALL using the old contact plate design from the Hyper 212 PLUS.
The Hyper 212 EVO uses an improved design.

As many have already said, the Hyper 212 of any revision, is no longer the best cooler for the money.
It WAS back in....2015 and before, but not anymore.

That said, because it is a tower-style cooler, it WILL perform better than any AMD / Intel stock cooler.

That was true 5 years ago. Nowadays there is a lot more competition in that price range and the Hyper 212 is easily outpaced by other, cheaper coolers like the Vetroo V5, ID-Cooling SE-224-XT, DeepCool AK400, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120, etc. All of those should be better than the Hyper 212 (especially the Peerless Assassin, though that's also likely the most expensive cooler on that list) and should be better than the Wraith Stealth.

Also, the only thing that really changes with those variant Hyper 212s is the fan and maybe the mounting instructions. Performance wise they'll all be very similar.

Clean all the thermal paste off both the CPU and heatsink, then apply new paste again. That way you know it got applied properly.

So you can stick any device in and just run at a lower bandwidth. If it was just an X4 slot, the end of the slot would prevent longer devices from slotting in without taking a dremel to cut a slot in the end (which people have done).

Correct, that motherboard only has one physical M.2 slot on it.

You are most certainly free to add 2.5" SATA SSDs.
However, you CAN purchase a PCI-E to M.2 adapter card, and plug it into the bottom PCI-E X16 (X16 physically, X4 electrically) slot.

    Most 1Gb and 2.5Gb NICs are PCI-E X1, while some of the 10Gb NICs are PCI-E X4.
Depending on what you end up getting, that can either go into the PCI-E X1 or X4 (electrically) slot.

You sure you don't have another fan mount (or as you call it, air hole) in the front? Single radial (as opposed to blower style) fans on a GPU aren't great, but the more fans the quieter.
But as long as you clean out dust, and your fans are oriented properly (purshing air in and out the system smoothly, not fighting each other) you should be fine for basic gaming.

    1) Not enough information to know. How are your temps? Use HWinfo to monitor temps while using the PC. Usually just 1 fan isn't great, though.
    2) Yes.

Sorry but that message could be used to learn from, but was actually just there to tell @HairlessMonkeyBoy that he was correct.
That was not part of an answer, just a teaching moment

I just realized that you read the prices in dollars which is not, its actually $5 cheaper (1dollar = 2.82tnd) but it doesnt really matter, let's consider this as an UP (I hope its permitted).
    Thanks.

Get any corsair, 450w should be enough for that. but with only $15 cheaper, the 550 should be good.
