It's been a few years since I folded, but I figure if Linus can help out with F@H server issues, i can help out LTT.

Points can be helpful to try to optimize your system. They can also show dedication to the project. other than that, not much

Hi! New to forum.  I got directed here by Linus' F@H video, and looks like im late to the party.  Still folding anyways and currently chugging along at 790K PPD and 920K PPD on two machines.  Soon to have a third machine up and running.  Cheers!

It seems like at the moment that unless you have 24-36 cores, it is really not rewarding to use a CPU as you get roughly an order of magnitude less points using a CPU as you do using a GPU. Overclocking is trying to slightly boost scores on something that is diminishing results already to me is probably a no.

My 8700K on average produces 5000-6000 points an hour (Overclocked to 5GHz), heats up the room, and slows down the GPU.  My older 1070TI produces 56500 points an hour and I can easily use other programs while it runs.  That makes me question if it's worth doing often.  Zen2 units have posted showing as many PPH as my 1070ti, and any GPU that is 20XX tends to produce far better than my 1070.

I have also found out that what I had tested and operated as a stable overclock for months was not stable on for FAH.  At one point I folded for for 2 days only to have my system crash while at work and miss out on 5+ hours of folding loosing out on about 300K points for the possibility of an extra 25K points.  You can see that it doesn't add up for me, your results may vary.

After digging though my office for random bits, stealing from other systems, sacrificing some parts from a planned ebay part ITX build I started, but had no case for and a little 3D printing and zip ties to fill in the gaps of a makeshift body on a monitor stand, this abomination what brought online.

When powered, its first words to me were "What is my purpose?" and I said "To fold for LTT!", and that is what it is doing ever since...

Meet Creaser, the spare part folding bot!

I will update if this is the issue so that other can learn from my issues.

Update:  It was the fact that I was locking my computer screen that was allowing windows to kick the system into sleep mode.  If you google changing the registry for "system unattended sleep time out" that might work as well and allow you to have some security to keep your cat/dog/kid/significant other from accidentally messing with your computer while you are away.

I just had a run in with this server, it gave me a whopping 1000.00 (base) points on a 8500 point project.  Nice.

I am running a vCore of 1.35V, Idle at 32C (room at 21C) and FAH set to 10 cores but using all 12 to 100% at 69C.  Max HWMon temp of 76c in the last 24h.
The de-lid accounted for a 23C drop in CPU idle temps, and a 10C drop in max temps while moving from 5.0-5.2GHz and that is with a Kraken X62.

If you want to know more message me as this is getting little off topic for this thread I think.  I am new here and not wanting to derail a thread.

I second that 100C is wayyyyy to hot and is probably throttling the CPU.  A quick search suggested that 100C the rated tj max (built in throttle to prevent damage to the processor)  for your processor.  So something like 75-80C is probably a high ceiling for overclocking that.

I have a delid 8700K running @ 5.2 AVX-0 well tested and running like that for months.  I also have been running a Strix 1070 TI (+800 mem, +170 core) that has been tested with longer OCCT runs to verify no memory errors.

    F@H proved that wrong.

I didn't want to give up my OC completely so:
For my CPU i put it to AVX-2 and bumped up the voltage by a tiny bit (0.05V)  it's 24/7 folding stable now.
For my GPU It has taken days and multiple failed projects, but I think that a decrease of 20% core speed and 35% memory speed made it stable now.

I can now sleep/ work without worrying much about folding stability while sheltering in place. yay.

Looks like there have been a lot of people reporting issues with 11758 failing to upload to 155.247.164.213 and 155.247.164.214. Also less common but also reports of 11753 also failing. It appears that F@H have been made aware of the issues over on their forums already. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=32492

I've added this to the known issues notice at the top of the page for now. If you get any of these work units please monitor to see if they are able to successfully upload once completed.

If you are stuck on one of these work loads and it is failing to upload once completed then it is possible to dump the work unit, however this is not recommended unless absolutely necessary! Dumping a work unit will forego any points for completing it and will also count as a failed unit, potentially causing you to lose eligibility for quick return bonuses.
