For anybody saying that 8K on YouTube is pointless because we don't have 8K monitors:
Following your logic it's pointless for me to watch a 4K video since I have a HD Ready monitor. Right? No, wrong!
When you upload your 720p video YouTube compresses it, a lot, so you end up with very poor quality. Even on my monitor I can see big differences between 720p. 1080p and 4K

For anybody saying that 8K on YouTube is pointless because we don't have internet conections for this:
Not all of us live in the US. I have 100 Mbps, but I can get 1 Gbps, no data cap, for under 15 (fifteen)$ / month.

For anybody saying that 8K on YouTube is pointless because we don't have the processing power necesary to watch 8k videos:
I don't have a dedicate graphics card, only the indegrated GPU on my dual core intel celeron. I can watch 4k smoothly (only with IE11 in Windows 8.1) so I don't think 8K would be such a big deal.

That one has a $10k sensor upgrade available that makes it 8k. So yeah, minimum $45k to get an 8k camera body (no lenses, controls, screens, or storage, just a sensor and a box).

I have recently followed MKBHD post about editing the cookies to try out the new experimental YT player, and it looks really nice!

I have been trying out watching it in 4k on my 1080p monitor, which i know is pointless but it was interesting! This morning though i loaded up a video and it appeared to be in 8k, now i'm sure this is the wrong thread but i thought i should post it anyway. Of course the video i was watching was actually a mere 4k video but i found it quite interesting that, even though it was a bug, there was the graphic in place for 8k.

So i took a screenshot of the tool:

So i have no idea if they are implementing the feature anytime soon i was just quite surprised by the graphic placeholder being there!

Hey it is the US vs China vs everybody vs everybody.  If you don't have one agreed upon, sensible objective that is beneficial for the entire world this is what you end up with. Grats to the US for slowing down progress. However when it is financially beneficial and politically ok for them to continue building that super computer China will get what it needs.  The world is ****.

Impossible. Useless. And probably a bug.
Many people can't watch 1080p right now (or don't have enough bandwidth for it). Not even talking 4K..
