Was sorta funny how Samsung sponsored this video when one of their cables was one of the few to fail.

Incidentally (and this might make a good TechQuickie video or whatever, honestly), what's the reason for using DisplayPort only on monitors and HDMI only on TVs? DisplayPort in general just seems like generally a lot more rebust and less glitchy standard.

Samsung is slowly making my decision to get a new Note easier...that is to say I'm probably not going to get a new Note.

The Ultra, while nice, is also priced much higher than what I'd reasonably like to pay for a phone. I love the S Pen but I am increasingly doubtful that I have used it enough to warrant a huge premium. And the regular Note20 is really just such a gigantic piece of memery on its own, due to its also-very-expensive price tag and a slew of puzzling downgrades like the display, construction and even the key hardware.

Looking at phones like the Pixel 4A and OnePlus Nord alongside Samsung's own A71 is really reinforcing my potential decision to "downgrade" from my Note8 to one of those midrangers in the future, because they do everything I need it to do at a far more sensible price point, and because they have gotten bloody excellent over the past few years in terms of performance, I will notice absolutely nothing in terms of real world performance differences moving from a flagship.

The Z Fold2 looks good though. Very typical of a second generation product. Makes the original Fold look way more dated than it already is.

That's more of an exception than the norm though because that's not how things go with phones usually. I think many people just shrug and continue their wireless buds on the high end.

zephyrus_001 reacted to PlayStation 2 in Why do they still make MP3 players??
I do gotta say, it amazes me that people don't realize that there's online marketplaces other than iTunes or Google Play where you can buy not just MP3 format music, but all the way up to lossless FLAC music. Places like 7Digital for larger record labels or Bandcamp for artists that make use of that service often have their shit in lossless form, or at least in a high quality lossy format.
Plus, if you want to use an MP3 player for Spotify, I'd say an iPod touch would be (one of) the best route(s) to go for that. They're relatively inexpensive, they're super quick, they have decent battery life if you just wanna play music and they can be had with a lotta storage if you need it. That or there's dedicated Android-based players that also offer that thing, too.

This was probably one of the most disappointing LTT videos I've seen in a while.
They completely skip over most of the reasons people buy high end players, only going with the whole "don't you have a phone?!" argument; one that, if I recall, didn't go over too well with Blizzard either.

Instead of going with some of the better known cheap options like the Sansa Clip that @xnamkcor mentioned, you went with some unknown Amazon special that costs twice as much. You avoided brands like HiBy, which are known for putting out more affordable units with excellent spec (though I get that the high end one is there merely because you already had it).

This video just wreaks of something that was thrown together last minute with the bare minimum of research.

This is why I don't really watch LTT videos anymore.

But I get it. It works for your young audience, of whom will jump on the "haha, yeah, just use your phone!" line.
    Most have
Agreed. Personally I just hate having my phone in my hand all the time. It's large, bulky, and just annoying to hold.
    We really don't.
Pretty much all decent MP3 players will have expandable storage. So. You're free to add a ton of high speed storage for very little money compared to what it cost 15 years ago. If you went to a regular electronics store they likely didn't have quality MP3 players either. You have to go to a music store, or go online to get those.

I guess you didn't look at Sony? They have tons of players available. But, if you want bigger screens and more features, yes, you have to move up market. There's tons of options, though I don't know what you consider expensive. $200 seems perfectly reasonable for an MP3 player of higher quality. You also have the iPod line up. Great if you're looking for something thin with a less powerful amp/dac.

How are they to compete? I think you missed the whole point with your next comment; acceptable quality. Most people that buy MP3 players are looking for more than that.

I like large phones. I don't want to carry that at the gym, on a trail, or running.
Completely agree. This is one of the worst videos I've seen from them in a while, and I went into it having such high hopes.
I should have known better. Falls into the same category as their phone reviews for me; useless.
If you had a smartphone you could use apps to find friends
Who said they got the songs from less than ethical sources?
There are many, many places where you can download albums in MP3 format perfectly legally with the revenue going to the artist.
Worth is subjective. Some people prefer something with a better amp that can power more headphones, or the better DACs, etc. Phones suck for decent quality music.
    Hahahaha truth.

When my note 4 died i got an lg v20 half expecting the dac thing to just be a gimmick but it actually sounds much better even compared to the iphone 6 i was borrowing. so i would assume a device with all of the cost put into audio would be even better

but that is still not a budget TV. thats like saying a ferrari 488 is budget compared to the LaFerrari, its still alot of money regardless.
If they worded it bang for the buck or something like that i wouldnt have an issue, but calling it budget is simply misleading.

on what planet is $2000 considered cheap? i know Linus is a wealthy man but come on, that is NOT a cheap tv, i dont care what specs are in the thing. that is at least a mid range tv, its not even in the same galaxy as a 'budget' tv

zephyrus_001 got a reaction from Origami Cactus in What is the exact purpose of Short Circuit compared to normal Linus videos?
Short-circuit has hands on with sponsored content, its basically all the hand-on videos that LTT used to do before (maingear PC, laptop hands-on, etc), they just dump that on the new channel.

I expected that since they are going to dump low quality stuff there the main channels quality would increase? but no, some of the main channel videos sound like a stretched 10+ minute short-circuit video (specailly sponsored conent vids..)

I just don't want this to turn into another unbox therapy type channel or normie hype channel. There's already MKBHD, mr.whoosetheboss, mr.Mobile, Tech Chap, Android Authority, Android Central, etc.

this is strong specially with reviews! I feel that linus now goes with what is expected from the consumers rather than what he feels, we watch his videos for his personal opinions after testing and using devices, or even the writters opinion. If the writters opinion is swayed by influence from the internet, I think I'm better off listening to the best buy rep.

zephyrus_001 reacted to JoostinOnline in What is the exact purpose of Short Circuit compared to normal Linus videos?
Linus goes with what he thinks will make the most money. It's time to accept that. It was a disappointing realization, but it's not a secret. LMG is strictly a business. That's not an evil thing, I'm not condemning it, but it's not what a lot of us thought when we first joined.  We all have biases that we can't see, and that includes Linus. Despite the countless complaints on here over the past few years I don't think he actually realizes how much things have changed.

I still watch WAN Show because he's far more genuine there, but really the only solution is to unsubscribe from the channels and find alternatives. I went to Gamers Nexus. It's more technical to the point where I rarely understand the finer points, but I trust Steve and the writers there far more.

zephyrus_001 got a reaction from Johnny-Boi in What is the exact purpose of Short Circuit compared to normal Linus videos?
Linus already does a lot of sponored content of LTT, and short-cuircuit is just more sponsored content with video sponsors (main-gear PC. laptops, and unboxy tech stuff).
Some of Linus' recent videos on the main channel have been "unboxing", which could have been uploaded to 'short-circuit' instead?

Does the existance of short-circuit mean better conent in the main channel? I really loved the older Linus review because the were in-depth (iSwitched [Imac 5k review], iphone6/iphone7 reviews?, S8 review,, he even did a great windows phone review [htc phone]) (or Luke's blue iphone video? I can think a lot of older videos that I liked a lot) (The ULTIMATE RGB PC Build Guide!)

even some non-linus videos are great, the intro to Key-mouse video! Taran's keyboard and Bandon's camera videos! even their short-ciruit videos (Taran/Brandon) were well done compared to Alex sounding like he's reading a product pdf like a wallmart sales rep.😅
I feel the channel is trading script/topic quality for quantity for the past 2 years. some of linus' older videos feel less obnoxious even though they are less polished (The ULTIMATE RGB PC Build Guide!)

I'm not hating on linus or anything because honestly Linus is the reason I watch these types of videos and i'm just concerned for the channel/media brand in general. Linus is the reason I got into PC building and tinker around with tech as a hobby. I watched the retirement livestream live and I thought of not talking about this, but I don't know I feel like the company's video production is losing direction, because linus is appealing to the broader audience.
There have been really good videos every now and then! the recent Linux video

Linus once said that he didn't see unboxing videos as having a future, but now he does a lot on sponsored content to the point that its scary. also there's less and more diluted review for both CPU's and phones to the point I don't see a difference between other channels that don't do in-depth reviews (ryzen XT cpus? I expected linux to say they are crap like GamersNexus or Hardware unboxed), this applies to phone reviews too they feel really diluted, like something Android Authority or some gerneic phone reviewer would write because those channels try to appeal to the niches and sell products in the end.

The older linux videos were poorly done, I dont know but I feel like if you put same effort as a server room upgrade in a linux video, linux video would have made a better videos but no.

Also I have a buisness idea, but since i'm just 19 years old  take it with a grain of salt, move all sponsored content to short-circuit
    OR
make another channel that does proper niche tech conent with the 2016 style back, you have the capital to do this!

I just want to end this saying I'm not a hatter or someone who is salty, I just see a lot of potential wasted... well maybe that is me being salty? idk

How many linus videos does it take to upgrade anything?
    A. one for each sponsor, each for every custom cable
