Swes got a reaction from KnightSirius in How big of a gap is there between 120hz, 144hz and 165hz that you can percieve?
I feel once you are in triple digits improvements start to fall away. What matters most is a stable setup at the refresh rate you choose

Buying used is always going to be a game of chance. I usually do ok though. Newegg is fine . It can be a PITA to call them but their chat service is pretty good. Just RMA and be done with it. Amazon is ok when you know exactly what you want or don’t really have time to compare . I don’t reccomend people buy from there because they reccomend whatever they want based on algorithms not real knowledge. I’m not saying Newegg is perfect but atleast when I filter graphics cards I don’t get empty boxes and mouse pads and other BS showing up as results.

I think many of us think apple has gone a bit downhill when Mr. Jobs died, and I think his attention to detail was one of the reasons for that perceived decline. I miss that level of thought that went into.... everything. Even if he was a bit neurotic.

Swes got a reaction from Ben17 in I've got an i7-9800X! Who wants benchmarks?
I’m curious how it behaves in something memory intensive since that’s where you might see something positive vs. other choices.

9800X has some justification in the absurd pricing of the 9900K, if you want to do a build now and you have a a crazy SLI setup planned or something sure. It’s a bit of a wash and you get some cool X299 features. I think 8700K or 9700K still a good alternative..... butttttt we don’t know what OPs build looks like.

If this 9800X is for a 1070Ti or something idk why and I agree makes no sense since you should focus on GPU over the CPU for the most part and a 2700 with a 1080Ti/2080 will be a better choice if one needs threads and some clock frequency.

Good critical thinking drives better choices. Reciting things or just saying nah waste of money just annoys people and I hope I’ve given the former here.

Honestly I wish I went Ryzen instead of my 7700K now in hindsight but I also had a little less faith AMD would deliver a real IPC freq. competitor for Zen 2 which I now do believe now.

cloning to different hardware often results in behavior like this, realistically when you do things like upgrades to storage you should move non OS data manually and perform a fresh install or transfer license using restoration software you can get from the OEM.

Swes got a reaction from Fasauceome in Thoughts On This Build For Gaming. If I eventually do build it, i’ll prob upgrade the gpu after a couple years.
Depends on what you play. If you play pretty much only FPS and you feel competitive in it and are going for 144Hz its a good start and open for a GPU upgrade in the future however if you play casually and or play lots of older titles and RPG games just save your cash and go Ryzen.

Quality, I do recommend considering Ryzen as your upgrade path will be more open and you'll also be able to get more graphics card budget.

Swes got a reaction from Shawn3000 in Rebuild or New Build or Upgrade?
Sounds like a decent combo to me, you'd be spending a lot to upgrade performance from what you have IMO if I had that setup I wouldn't be upgrading unless I was trying to drive a UWQHD/4k or something.

Swes got a reaction from Noctus in Gender-Bias at CES 2019?
Who knows ? I would seem to think they’re for both. Part of the reason why I have some skepticism over the story . As far as I’ve been able to find online it’s just regurgitated over and over the fact they withdrew the award , there’s other sex related tech at CES thus CES is terrible and should feel bad. I’m hoping to hear an official statement to see what happens .

the demo cpu must be the best completed amd has to offer right now from the following points, no matter r5 /r7
    - Amd must get the best to compare with 9900k, imagine it has a 12c24t, why not demonstrate it and smash intel miles ahead?
    - If I were amd any dont have time to finish all series for demo, ie R3/ 5/ 7 and only forced to get one ready, I would pick developing r7 first.
    - if any cpu more than 8c is planned in zen, that would already be an amazing news, BUT.... no we didnt hear that

looks to me that is the new r7 ~ still 8c16 @4.5ghz

Just a way of saying you can change the refresh rate to a few different settings.

can be useful since if your .1% lows are say 94 FPS and you have a 100Hz monitor then you just drop the refresh rate down to avoid stuttering.

128 gig SSD is a bit small and its still SATA so if you can buy a 2.5 inch to save some cash I would. It will get the job done but its definitely a boot only drive.

You really need an ssd, even a low capacity one. The drives should be compatible if they are using sata, but if they are using IDE they aren't.
