You mean the PCIE cable looks like a 6+2? Like this?

That will fine.

My graphics card I got requires a dedicated 8 pin connector but my power supply has a 6 pin with a separate 2 pin connecter. Can I use that or do I have to use an adapter for it

You can just plug in both the 6 pin and 2 pin to make an 8 pin connector. I learned that when I built my system! Hope this helps, Aaron
