  1. Hydronaut's fine - pretty much on par with MX-4 from my experience. Since you've got a 360mm AIO and it's a 5800X you're cooling (and probably not heavily overclocking), it's not like you'll need the best possible TIM to drop an extra few degrees, so just use Hydronaut and save yourself from the hassle that comes with LM.

Ordered a Razer Siren Mini! I heard a lot of go…

Yeah, we all know where that's going.
  3. Could be the fact that you're trying to push ~160W for your CPU through a handful of discrete MOSFETs that don't even have a heatsink on them. Point a fan on the VRMs and see how much that helps. In the meantime, I'd probably suggest ordering a new, proper motherboard.

it's interesting to see VRAM degrade in real ti…

I don't know how much it's the memory degrading as it is it being unstable in the first place. Validating memory OCs is super time consuming in general because of the amount of times you (ideally) have to test it to ensure that it's stable. Though it could also be temperature as you've said. That'd be a much more legitimate reason than degradation imo.

  9. After running my B-die just at its XMP speeds like a total plebian these past few months, I might finally try overclocking it and getting some of that sweet, sweet placebo performance improvement you get out of RAM overclocking. But hey - bragging rights 780915271153614848.gif?v=1

  10. May I ask why?.. The CPU will boost accordingly to what you're doing and also clock down to save power when there's nothing going on. All you're gaining by enabling "ultimate power" is unnecessary heat and power draw. But to answer your question, 50C is not out of the ordinary when idling, though idle temps aren't really all that relevant. What temps are you getting at full load?
  11. Why don't you first try it out with just the single fan?

...or they're just shrinking the bezels and it'll still be about the same size, like with the 16"?
  13. Is it the newer, grey label TXM? If so, then no, it will work perfectly fine with a 3070.
  14. What components will you be powering?

    hello

  16. So them selling cheap gaming chairs and RGB keyboards means that they also make good power supplies? What are you even trying to say?
  17. The Suprim X is mostly just a glorified Gaming X Trio, so I'd say it's closer to ASUS' TUF than it is to the Strix. It's a good card, sure, but I wouldn't pay a Strix/FTW3-level premium for it.

Also, the stock cooler should do an alright job cooling the 3600, though it tends to be a little loud; if you really want to keep noise down, I'd look at something like an NH-L9a chromax.black, though that would also require you to stretch your budget further to ~1100 quid.

Yeah -- it's just too bad that it took GN to do NZXT's work and repeatedly call them out on it, while they were busy tweeting out edgy memes.
  20. Yes, severe whining is a known effect of pairing modern, high power GPUs with PSUs that use a double forward topology, which is another reason why you shouldn't really power your expensive components with a cheap PSU. Honestly, if you managed to afford a 3070, I don't see why you couldn't just get something like a TX550M/650M or an RM550x/650x (just a couple examples, there are other very good options out there, of course). The CV650 might work with the 3070, but... I'd rather be sure of it working properly than playing a lottery. Pretty much all brand new PSUs will have a weird smell for a little while, though that doesn't mean anything. It's almost like people saying their PSUs are overheating just because they feel too hot to the touch. I mean, there have been cases of much more expensive PSUs being DOA even; things happen. Having a 0% failure rate across various different SKUs would be pretty unlikely, to say the least. Now, whether the person whose CV650 died after 20 months was unlucky enough to have had a bad unit or whether they were using it in a way that would negatively affect its lifespan is a different question, which also most likely doesn't have a clear answer.
  21. I mean, the CL16 kit is better, but certainly not 40 quid better. Unless you can't spend that money elsewhere in a way that would make a more notable difference (better GPU, storage, fans, etc.), I'd get the CL18 kit or a 3200 CL16 kit if it's cheaper.
  22. That's fine, for idle. What's the Vcore voltage sitting at when your CPU is under full load?
