Dedayog reacted to Aereldor in Looking for Sound Recommendations
For movies/tv etc, I would say that surround is better because movies nowdays are mixed with surround systems in mind. Hell even netflix supports Dolby Atmos on select titles. It adds a lot to the
5.1 vs 7.1 is trickier, I'd say both are great. I'm just recommending 7.1 because starting in 2011 companies switched from mixing primarily for 5.1 systems, and started designing their releases specifically for the best results on 7.1 systems.
This is not to say that music will sound BAD on these. Since music is just 2.0 - left and right - the sounds will just be mirrored by the surround speakers. The satelite speakers (the ones in the back and sides, not the 3 in front) have more high end and the subwoofer has more low-end, so the distribution of frequencies happens organically.
And because on a $1000 budget, you can definitely afford it. I'll stand by the Fluance Elite and the Sony 790.
The reasons to go 2.0 is if you're primarily listening to music, are low on space, and are on a tighter budget. Hell, a lot of people I know have a 2.0 and a 5.1 system in the same room.
Dedayog reacted to Aereldor in Looking for Sound Recommendations
To be fair, I'm a musician, so I'm a 2.0 guy. But surround is nice to have for movies, and a lot of stuff is being recorded/produced with 7.1 in mind over 5.1, starting in 2012 I think.
A good 7.1 set is the Fluance Elite -
Paired with a Sony 790 receiver
I'm not aware of a low-cost, all-in one wireless package like the Enclave speakers I mentioned earlier. Not for 7.1 and not under $1000
Dedayog reacted to Carathas in I'm an alcoholic [Intel $5,000 Extreme Tech Upgrade - Anthony]
Why am I making this post?
So I wanted to make a post here after Anthony discussed his issue with weightloss issue and quite honestly, it affected me! After watching the latest video and having Anthony talk so openly about his weight issues, it gave me a sudden glimps of clarity. I'm an alcoholic, and I don't mean that in the sense of "I need a drink to get me through the day" but I'm happy to sit there and drink 8 pints of beer and then jump on to 4 or 5 double whiskeys until I can't remember going to bed. On top of that, I am a smoker! Not in the sense of smoking 20 marlboro a day, because I was far to good for that. I smoked 5 half corona cigars a day, because smoking cigars clearly meant that I was better than cigarette smokers, right? Wrong. I'm an idiot. I spend on average CAD$150 a week on my terrible habits.
What Is My Endgoal?
So I want to quit everything. I'm not an idiot and I understand that this could be very bad for me, alcoholics suffer horrendous withdrawal sympthoms and I expect that I will suffer a lot of these issues. Last time I had a drink was maybe 20 minutes for the latest LTT video came out and I'm already craving a drink. I would kill a small child for a quadruple whiskey right now but it's not going to happen.
What do I want?
Honestly nothing, I'm here to support Anthony, but if you guys have had to deal with this stuff and have tips, then feel free to send them my way. I'm done with this shitty life. I'm done with underperforming and waking up, not knowing how I got to bed or why I feel so terrible each morning. I will try my best to update this thread for every day that I stay clean, I really hope that someone else who is struggling will be able to see this and come to me.

I'd put an L-shaped desk in the corner where the table/2 chairs is, about all you can do in a small space like that.
Or remove all the Living/Dining stuff and use that area.
Honestly, what did you expect us to say? It's a small space that really can't accommodate what you want from it, but stuff it in how you can.
Dedayog reacted to Fasauceome in why so many scared of bottleneck?
"bottleneck" is an easy word to use, and a common boogeyman, because it is so simple. People think any bottleneck is terrible, and they also think they can always get rid of a bottleneck. See also: popularity of the "bottleneck calculator" websites.
Any PC will have a weak point, something that holds the rest of the system back. BUT, that weak point is always something different, depending on what you are doing with your PC, what games you are playing, etc. Most new users don't understand, and can't even tell the difference between a bottleneck and performance scaling. It's the same group of people that are concerned with how "future proof" their system is, it's just a buzzword that people latch onto.

I need to put it on this 3600, the cooler was on a 1700x hence the need for it now. The 1700x is going to a friend so there’s another application. I need to repaste the old living room pc it’s been years. So I really need 5 applications at the most

How does the cooling of a PS4 have to do with a PC?
A good air cooler and a decent case and he's fine.
I would suggest you read the forums here a bit, It sounds like the 15 year old is running this build and has you convinced you need to spend 4 GRAND on a box.
Why was the motherboard bought months ago? What happened to that build?
Really all this overkill for a little teenager to stream a game to all of what? 4-5 friends? Gotta keep things in perspective here, you're not building a graphic design workstation for a big company here.
Folks are giving you great advice, up to you to heed it.
Dedayog reacted to TetraSky in What does "Sorry, this product is no longer available" mean on Lenovo.com?
Exactly what it means, it's not available.
It can either be because they've discontinued it already or because it's out of stock, just like nearly every other laptop with this CPU is. Either way, it doesn't change the meaning of the phrase "no longer available".

Right, but you realize most gaming and workstations don't cost more than $2000? Do you know what a $2000 workstation will do or how it will tackle your tasks?
Not saying don't spend your money how you want, but I am not getting the sense you know what you're asking.
For video editing, what kind? Just editing your gameplay? 4k? 8k? You know what you need to do before you buy the right tool. A PC is nothing but a tool to accomplish something.
What programs are you using? That impacts things too.

Dedayog got a reaction from Mister Woof in ram usage so high on idle?
Pretty sure it has and you didn't notice. Look at all the processes you installed yourself, Game Manager, Razer software, Dragon something, Nvidia software etc. The machine has a lot of things to do.
Did you recently install something that boosted the RAM usage? If it just jumped up, SOMETHING was added.
