Thank you very much very kind. I've been sharing it around as quite proud of him. Even if he did cost me a fortune learning petg:)

There is quite a lot wrong with the build but I'd be a rubbish teacher if I kept taking the tools off him. So you learn by mistakes.

He's got the bug now big time so now I just need to work out how to fund two habits instead of one:)

Seriously?  Sell the 570  for like 350ish, buy a 980 ti for 240-300 and get a better PSU with whats left.

The CX550M is good enough (with gray sticker, the one with green is bad).

Unless OP needs the extra cores, 6700k/7700k is a better option and also cheaper.

Xeons don't have iGPUs, so you'll just have to use two inputs on the GPU (which doens't hinder performance).

    you have a 7700k and a b250 board. Get a z270 board.

I would save for as long as you can, if you save for an entire year you could buy a decent laptop or a decent little desktop. Anything for $100 or less is pretty much sure to be terrible

please don;t get a single rad liquid cooler. many regular air coolers will give better performance for a simmilar price.

also, you might want to invest a bit into an SSD for your OS, since it really does help with boot times and such.

My birthday is coming up soon so I decided to build my own pc (for the first time). Here are the parts I have chosen https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Fyr9d6 I was just wondering are all of these compatible and will I be running into any issues e.g. cpu bottlenecking or anything like that.

    Thanks.

Awesome! I can't see any problems, as all your component choices are solid!

Samsung makes the best SSDs, hands down. Crucial and Corsair also make good ones, and they're sometimes cheaper.

I can vouch for this SSD. I've got one in my MacBook Pro and it runs great. Plenty of space for work and a decent amount for Windows in BootCamp.

Zando_ reacted to Zyndo in Gtx 1070 vs 1080 ?
1440p is no joke, especially at 144 hz. as far as which one you should buy, well that comes down to what level of performance you expect out of your system.... if you want to be running ultra/max settings at a near constant 144hz, then you are going to want nothing short of a 1080ti and even then it probably won't quite make it in some titles. If you're okay with turning a few settings down, taking off AA, and maybe running on high settings rather than ultra in some games... then a 1070 is all you need.

My recommendation for a resolution and refresh rate like that would be to get the most GPU horsepower you can afford, because one way or another you're likely going to need it (although that may depend on exactly which games you choose to play).

I've used them in a few build and agree very solid SSD for the money. The new WD blue SSD's are also great value and we have yet to see any issues with them.

Th iGPU on the 7700K is just fine, unless you want to run some newer games. It'll pay old games (2005) just fine.

With the inflated prices of 480's I'd totally do it. You should also see a decent performance bump in games too.
