You can change pagefile to whatever you like. I wouldn't recommended using under 1/2 of your physical ram. But that won't really effect on how software are using pagefile. If its coded bad, you have to live with it.

Massa9 reacted to Godlygamer23 in will i need to upgrade my GPU if i get another monitor?
Adding another display to your system will increase the load on the GPU and will decrease performance in games slightly. Does it put double the pressure on the GPU? That depends. If you're sitting at the desktop, then yes that other display is most likely duplicating the load that the main monitor is causing on the GPU. However, if you're playing a game like Crysis 3, it's no longer double the pressure - it's more like 5% extra or something along those lines.

I was gonna mention glide too..  I saw one once, a Voodoo gfx card.. held it in my very hands.  But yeah, Nvidia has not given any indication of enhancing their OpenGL or OpenCL support to the level of what AMD  did with Manlte.   Let's hope for a time of 3 APIs battling it out.  again. And lets hope AMD can overcome their losses and release their new GPU this summer.  I did hear  a rumor on RedGamingTech 's youtube channel that Samsung was interested in AMD.  That would be cool if they came to their aid and let AMD do what they have done for the last decade, Be the first to set the bar, DX9,DX10,DX11....

DX 12 is not a bad thing. Thank you AMD and your API formerly known as "Manlte" for pushing the envelope and kicking MS in there collective a**es  that basically made MS start fixing Direct3D

This is the problem. Games are optimized for consoles, while PCs for the most part are left in the cold. I understand it's more difficult to test PC hardware, but come on. Devs are now doing an awful job of developing and optimizing games. Ubisoft was/is making poor excuses not to push 60FPS. Not sure if they're still doing it though.

Sandisk has very reliable drives.  The Cheapest one right now is Sandisk SDSSDP-128-G25 128GB for 54.99 on newegg,ca   though the best Value and newer faster drive is Their  Ultra II SSDHII-240G-G25. 240GB for 99.99 on newegg,ca.
From the SSDs i have used The Kingston HyperX 3K was the most inconsistent and failed after 6 months. Intel X25-M and V are still going and the Sandisks SDDs and Flash Drives are going strong.
Intel and Sandisk all the way

    FAQ:
Dont buy that Cpu, buy the Pentium K.  No. That isn't even a question, and I will not buy a Pentium K. I'm on much too strict of a budget, and I find a good GPU to be more important.
Will the parts fit?                                    Yes, the parts should all fit.
What will this be used for?                     This will be used as an HTPC.
Why the PS2?                                        Nostalgia, and the challenge of building in such a case, plus it wouldn't look out of place in the theater room.

I thought I might as well start the thread before the parts get here to get some planning help.

Anyway, I've been wanting to do this for the past year, and it's finally happening!

    What I'm planning to do:

My goal is to get everything fitted inside the PS2.
I'm going to completely hollow out the inside of the PS2, and creating a new back panel.
I'll be stacking the motherboard and graphics card, fans toward each other, towards the right of the back panel.
The power supply will go fan down in the left, underneath the slim BluRay drive, which will go in the classic location, the original drive's spot.
I'm thinking the SSD will be wedged in the far right, next to the motherboard and GPU.

Massa9 reacted to Altecice in What is a good thermal paste for GPU?
You need to replace thermal pads, for best effect use thermal paste on the chip then put the thermal pad back on top of it. Any thermal paste is fine as long as its non-conductive.

Massa9 reacted to Interfectorem in What is a good thermal paste for GPU?
As long as the paste is Non-Conductive, since most GPUs don't have an IHS. I used some Antec Formula 7 on my little brother's HD 6770, it dropped temps about 5 degrees for me. Just put a dab on the center of the die and you should be good to go. You could reuse the thermal pads, if they do rip, I suppose you might have to replace them.

Some of you might have read it in one of many posts I post about things for my new built.

It is not really a real casemod, I'm going to do a bit of modding, more on that later on in this topic.

    Parts list
CPU: i7-4790k (or whatever the devils canyon is going to be called) but if it is not available in two weeks (if the rumors about it coming in September are right) I don't know what to do . I think I'll just grab a 4670k and when devils canyon is released I'll put in the devils canyon i7 and sell this chip or something like that.
    CPU-cooling: h100i
Motherboard: Maximus vii hero. (It was this one or the z97 MPOWER but I went for this one because its made by ASUS and the crapload of features I probably don't even need)
GPU: powercolor royalace r9 290 (hopefully getting a second one in December) it was either this one or the tri-x (to go with the mpower board).
SSD: 480Gb crucial m500 (because its cheap...)
RAM: 2x 4Gb Hyperx fury 1866Mhz red, and 2x 4Gb Hyperx fury black
    Case: 450D
    PSU: seasonic m12II-evo

Cooling and little ascessoiry thingies are not listed.

No bulk storage, my 5TB ZFS is where I keep my bulk data and the couple gigs of other (the important) information will fit on my ssd.
No custom liquid cooling, I would love to do it but its to expensive for me.

    What is the plan?
Going to built a pc you wouldn't have guessed.

No, the real plan is going to make an acrylic panel in my case kindof between the motherboard tray and motherboard, but through the whole case so also in the psu region and drive cage regions.
Also I'm going to remove the 5,25" bays and place the psu there. So I can place a couple of fans in the bottom of my case to give my gpu some cool air. Also because its different then where "normal" people have their powersupply. I'm going to do a lot of finishing touches with acrylic and aluminium to make the whole think look better. I've it all planned out in my head, so it is a surprise for you guys what I'm exactly going to do. I'm going to mount my ssd somewhere where you can see it through the window.
As you could have read in the "show of your sleeving skills topic" I am going to do custom sleeving (paracord heatshrinkless style).

Here is a quick 'n dirty drawing of my plan:

(Disclamer I cannot be helt responsible for any injuries to the eye caused by looking at this picture)
    My amazing paint skills

I've kindof already started working on this built so I'll post some pics of the work I've been doing the last couple of days tonight.

edit: update is delayed untill tomorrow I was working on it and then I forgot the time, its too late to do it now... (A built costs money, work is money and work is waking up early (for me atleast) )

edit: I renamed the built Whiplash (Yes its named after the MetallicA song )

It's gunna be great when NVIDIA finally launch their Maxwell GTX 800 series, like the OP said, the GTX 750 Ti has performed really well and one can only imagine how much better the GTX 800 series will be. It would be good, however, for NVIDIA to wait until they can implement the 20/22mm process for the 800 series because I think the GPUs would really perform outstandingly better than they would at 28nm. This is to not say that even if they did do them on 28nm that they would be sluggish, not by any means, I just believe that they'd perform significantly better than the 700 series if they waited. But I also know that that means consumers have to wait too and so I guess it all depends on how much demand there is for the GTX 800 series as to whether or not NVIDIA will wait until they can implement the 22nm process as oppose to the current 28nm. We'll just have to wait and see.
