i assume the new cpu is a different model than your old one (because it would make no sense replacing a cpu with the exact same model) and because of that it behaves a little bit different

What does your friend think of those that use both?
Personally I use both. I have a MacBook Pro because it's powerful and portable AND the program I use for audio editing just plain runs better on Mac OS, and can be run on the mbp. However, I have a desktop I built for gaming and gpu intensive tasks.
Technically I'm a "Mac user" because... well... I use a Mac. So I guess even though I've done IT work for 5 years, built mine and my friends computers, I'm not "tech savvy".
Maybe your friend should stop being all uppity about what OS or hardware people use and stop dealing in absolutes.
It's not the computer that matters, it's how you use it.

I respect most Mac users who are in Computing Science and can navigate through terminal like a boss. Your stereotypical arts student who uses macOS just because it's fashionable... ? Not so much.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Coaxialgamer in Being able to turn off RGB independently from PC
it is easy if you have all the RGB connected to a single control hub - those typically need to be connected to a sata power connector - now you could either get a sata power extension cord and hack a switch between the two ends or take an off-the-shelf harddrive switcher - either a switchbox that you can install in a drive bay in the front like this one:

or a PCI bracket variant that goes in the rear:

if you can pick it up in person and can verify if it is working or not that is a good sign.

buying used ram from an unknown seller online and have it shipped to you is a different story - i've had ram sent to me in a fucking paper envelope with no bubble wrap or ESD bag or nothing - this happened more than once. and of course half the sticks arrived dead

KenjiUmino reacted to mariushm in 2 15-pin SATA power suppliers for 3 3.5-inch HDD
    Yes, it will be enough.

Each sata connector is rated for 4.5A (3 x 1.5A per contact)  on each voltage (3.3v , 5v and 12v). Most mechanical hard drives use up to around 0.5A from 5v and up to around 0.5A from 12v, so even a single SATA power connector in theory would be enough.
SSD drives will average less than 0.2A on 5v only but for brief periods of time when they write to flash memory, they can use up to 1.5-2A of current.

KenjiUmino reacted to Schnoz in FAKE cheap "GTX 970" from China and other scams!
A few months ago, I bought a bargain-priced "GTX 970" for $40 because I wanted to try my hand at Ethereum mining. Here's a video (click me plz) with the particular card I ordered. So after purchase, I noticed several things not unlike the awesome guy in the video:
The card has a VGA output. The GTX 970 does not support VGA. The card cost $40. The heatsink is far too small for a 120-watt TDP. It has 1 GB of GDDR5. A normal GTX 970 comes with four times that. When I took the heatsink and fan off, the chip reads "GF116". That means it's from the Fermi architecture, and it's a mid-range chip... So, to the point then: Tell me about some scams you may have encountered or fell for, and what are your thoughts on this knockoff?
Also, you can help me by searching up GTX 970 on Ebay, turning the filter to low to high price, and pouring fire into the reviews section.

    you mean this?

that cable looks like it has a mono phone plug on one end and a chinch on the other - however, the chinch input on the speaker is digital only - some soundcards used to output digital audio over a phone plug so that is where this cable would work. it would not work on a normal analog line or phones output jack.

if your speaker system does have the purple "analog in" jack like the one in @themctipers picture then use that one - otherwise use a chinch to chinch cable and on a digital output if you have one or get an analog to digital converter that looks like this:

They still could've used Apple's connector in a non-Apple way. Meaning it's not an industry standard connector.

Anyway, since it's a non-standard connector, you'd have to find an adapter. Which there is one: http://www.microsatacables.com/sata-iii-to-asus-zenbooksandisk-ssd-adapter-with-35-inch-frame-asu-s3-zen-35f

seems like nothing worth phoning home about.

also, given that you found it in a garbage pile and the heatsink is missing, there is a high chance this thing is dead already.

but then again, who can say no to a free graphics card these days.

you should deffinately get some more controllers. what about the other guys?
if they are console gamers they should be able to bring their own controller.

steam can now use just about any usb controller (like PS3 & PS4 dualshock) and make them work even in games that only support xinput (xbox controller)

and then you can play rocket league or overlord fellowship of evil with up to 4 people on a single PC
