KenjiUmino got a reaction from johnukguy in Should i buy used ram?
if you can pick it up in person and can verify if it is working or not that is a good sign.
buying used ram from an unknown seller online and have it shipped to you is a different story - i've had ram sent to me in a fucking paper envelope with no bubble wrap or ESD bag or nothing - this happened more than once. and of course half the sticks arrived dead

KenjiUmino reacted to mariushm in 2 15-pin SATA power suppliers for 3 3.5-inch HDD
Yes, it will be enough.
Each sata connector is rated for 4.5A (3 x 1.5A per contact) on each voltage (3.3v , 5v and 12v). Most mechanical hard drives use up to around 0.5A from 5v and up to around 0.5A from 12v, so even a single SATA power connector in theory would be enough.
SSD drives will average less than 0.2A on 5v only but for brief periods of time when they write to flash memory, they can use up to 1.5-2A of current.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Ithanul in can Mac users be tech savvy
the vast mayority of people who buy windows machines are totally not tech savvy either.
i'd say the percentage is about equal - just that generally less people buy macs

Sounds like a good problem to have.

i was watching a video on watercooling where i heard something about "one 120 rad per component" as a rule of thumb - i think it was a jayz2cents video

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Jamesrzzzz in Digital Audio Output
you mean this?
that cable looks like it has a mono phone plug on one end and a chinch on the other - however, the chinch input on the speaker is digital only - some soundcards used to output digital audio over a phone plug so that is where this cable would work. it would not work on a normal analog line or phones output jack.
if your speaker system does have the purple "analog in" jack like the one in @themctipers picture then use that one - otherwise use a chinch to chinch cable and on a digital output if you have one or get an analog to digital converter that looks like this:

KenjiUmino reacted to Mira Yurizaki in ssd from laptop. what connector?
They still could've used Apple's connector in a non-Apple way. Meaning it's not an industry standard connector.
Anyway, since it's a non-standard connector, you'd have to find an adapter. Which there is one: http://www.microsatacables.com/sata-iii-to-asus-zenbooksandisk-ssd-adapter-with-35-inch-frame-asu-s3-zen-35f

KenjiUmino got a reaction from RyzenDoctor in I found it, but what is it?
google to the rescue:
seems like nothing worth phoning home about.
also, given that you found it in a garbage pile and the heatsink is missing, there is a high chance this thing is dead already.
but then again, who can say no to a free graphics card these days.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from TVwazhere in Multi-player Single PC game recommendations?
you should deffinately get some more controllers. what about the other guys?
if they are console gamers they should be able to bring their own controller.
steam can now use just about any usb controller (like PS3 & PS4 dualshock) and make them work even in games that only support xinput (xbox controller)
and then you can play rocket league or overlord fellowship of evil with up to 4 people on a single PC

KenjiUmino reacted to Ace McPlane in Which is the best gpu under 200$ atm?
A GTX 970 if you're good at sniping auctions on ebay.
You can get one for less than 200, but it takes patience.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Jaok in Which is the best gpu under 200$ atm?
i had no idea either until i found out that even my 1050ti i bought for 150€ is now selling for over 200€.
a 1050ti is a great card but totally not worth 200 bucks IMO.
yeah, i know, mining, supply and demand, bla bla but even GT 1030 cards go up in price - now what's the excuse for that ?
i am just shocked

KenjiUmino reacted to Oshino Shinobu in How Can I Make a USB into a TV BOX ( like Netflix and prime on ?
You mean a USB flash drive? If so, that's not possible, it's just storage.
Things like Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV sticks are compute sticks that are essentially full computers in a very small form factor. A normal USB flash drive is not that and cannot be used in the same way.
As for making "a tv box run off USB", I don't really get what you're wanting here

srsly? if you are concerned about THAT then windows 10 isn't for you to begin with.

you can have your key linked to your microsoft account. I had an ssd and reinstalled windows and when i signed into my account it automatically activated.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Mira Yurizaki in Overclocking through Virtual Machine
probably not - the whole point of a virtual machine is to NOT have direct access to the host hardware. at least not to the CPU and RAM - if you are passing thru a PCI card (like the graphics card for example) that card should be directly accessible by the guest OS
i think so. the "virtual hardware" provided by the VM host software is usually pretty basic stuff - every windows since XP should have drivers included.
if the the real hardware (PCI cards and such) is passed thru correctly then it should just detect like it would on a non virtual system
if you shut down the host system, all VMs go down of course but you can restart the virtual systems as many times as you like without affecting the host system. and if you plan to run a NAS on the same system - just don't restart or shut down the host system to keep the NAS accessible
VMs typically use a "virtual disk image" - all your virtual systems "harddrive" is stored in one large file somewhere on the host machine. it will be like a normal harddrive to the virtual system
if your VM refuses to boot for some reason you can mount its "virtual disk" in another VM and back your files up - just like you could take your computers harddrives out and plug them into another computer if your computer fails to boot
i'd just put larger drives into my computer or have an independent NAS on a fast network connection - i would put all my files there and use the usb drives as a "cold" backup (that means, back up everything, unplug the drives and put 'em somewhere safe)

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Jurrunio in Fastest Program to unzip .ISO files
iso files usually are not even compressed so the time it takes to extract the contents is about equal to the time it would take to move these files from one HDD to another.
you can mount iso files directly to show up as an optical drive in win 10 AFAIK.

KenjiUmino got a reaction from Sabir in Recommend me Speaker and Headphone for Sound BlasterX AE-5
fine then - let's start with speakers. how about a pair of Siltech Pantheon XXV
for just $125000 a pair
if you wanna spend more (like 2x more) you could get some some moon audio titan speakers.
good enough ?

KenjiUmino got a reaction from ProjectBox153 in CPU options with old OEM motherboard?
you won't find anything "better" than a core 2 quad on that socket.
and the faster C2Q's are still capable of some light gaming and media PC stuff when paired with a dedicated GPU.
get a Q9550 or Q9650 and a GT 1030, stuff as much RAM in there as you can and call it a day

KenjiUmino reacted to Daniel644 in Blew my Laptop up
the entry level gaming laptops with like 1050's maybe a 1050ti should be in that price range, I know we got one for a client off Newegg at that priceoint.
it had the SSD and everything
this guy plus another 8GB of RAM would get you there depending on the amount of ssd storage you need https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=9SIA57X6HG7319
