Yeah, it was all just a wonderful misunderstanding. Glad we got it all worked out.

Let me go back to playing AC4 with medium environment settings and pretty much everything else set to low/off now that I know they actually optimized it to run efficiently on the PC. Oh wait, no, I'm not going to do that. This changes nothing. I'm legitimately pissed off by the performance of this game I was looking forward to.

Revelations isn't AC4. I can't get a stable framerate without drops below 30 on any settings with my 280X. People with equivalent NVIDIA cards aren't doing much better, despite it being an NVIDIA title.

Well, that's lovely for you, but when I can't maintain even a smooth 30 FPS on a $300 card at 1080p with settings below medium, no matter who has exclusive driver privileges for it, then there's an issue with the game. Sometimes it can be excused, especially if a developer know it's an issue, or when it looks like Star Citizen or BF4 (keep in mind BF4 can run at a mostly consistent 60 FPS with max settings on my setup, and that was in the pre-release). But when they know it's an issue, and they basically come out and tell me that it's an issue I don't care about, on top of previously calling me a thief, and delaying something for nearly a month after it was released on five other platforms, one of which I know is a smaller market segment than PC, then they can just go right on and fuck themselves. They've lost a frequent customer in me. Other people can go ahead and forgive them... again, if they wish. I, however, am through. It's a shame really. I'm starting to run out of AAA publishers, and among them Ubisoft has some IPs I really enjoy.

Yeah, except the problem being that even SLI Titans can't run the bloody thing, so what exactly are we meant to do? This isn't a matter of developers saying "Look, this game is going to push the bar graphically, and if you can't handle the level of fidelity that we worked hard to craft, you're going to have to upgrade from your GTX 460." This is like them saying that if you want to play a game that looks worse than games released years ago, like Witcher 2, which can be maxed (sans ubersampling) on sub-$300 cards at or near 60+ FPS, you need to dish out $1000+ on GPU power (and even then, it won't work smoothly). That's inexcusable, and I'm completely sick of Ubisoft treating us like we're second class customers, just so they can use their publishing power to push us to platforms with less "thieves."

This is the end, I'm through with them. I tolerated them layering DRM with their shitty steam ripoff that doesn't work for half of the things it's supposed to do half the time, and I just ever so barely tolerated them artificially delaying games to sell or double sell their products on financially more advantageous platforms. But this is the last straw I'm going to tolerate of their flippant neglect of a good and growing segment of paying customers. I'm done.

Cronus reacted to Glenwing in AMD not releasing new FX CPUs Next Year
Most of you are missing the point of APUs entirely. The integrated graphics can be used as a mildly competent graphics card if you don't have one, yes, but the main purpose is that with the implementation of HSA, which AMD is just now ready to start putting into practice, when you have a dedicated graphics card the integrated GPU essentially becomes a section of the CPU, and handles the floating-point operations a CPU would normally be doing. GPUs are far more effective at churning through FP calculations than a CPU is, and FP math is used plenty in gaming. Can you see where this is going?
The FX CPUs, with the amount of performance they had, were effectively getting that much performance while crippled. They may be 8-core CPUs, as they have 8 integer units, but they only have 4 floating point units, so as far as FP math is concerned the FX-8350 is a quad-core. They could beef up the floating point capabilities of the Bulldozer architecture, but adding a GCN section to handle the floating point math is a far, far more effective solution. You wanted them to just keep working on an improved Bulldozer design? This is it. For the moment, the FX-8350 can still cover the higher end for a little while longer, and meanwhile they're working on HSA implementation on their smaller APUs. Now that they've done that, I suspect the next step is to start designing larger and higher powered APUs that can replace the FX-8350, and they only need AM3+ to cover for them until they are ready to do that and move entirely to the FM platform with high performance APUs, effectively the FX CPUs that you all are asking for, this time with epic floating point performance which has been the single biggest weak spot in FX CPU gaming performance.
APUs are great for budget gaming, but AMD has their sights set higher; in future enthusiast-class APUs, the integrated GPU is present with another purpose in mind. It's not for graphics processing. (Well, it is right now, since they haven't made the move from smaller, budget APUs to larger high performance APUs yet).
We'll see how things stand in a year from now with AMD's releases. It's just a race against time now, and hopefully AMD has the engineering resources to get higher end APUs on the table before the FX-8350 can't cover for them anymore.

Cronus reacted to Vindola in Apple dictionary definition of 'gay' includes 'stupid'
    I see nothing wrong here.

Let's face the facts, a dictionary's purpose is to define a word in accordance to the ways that people use it in real life.

The truth is, a lot of people use the word "gay" as a derogatory term and a synonym to "stupid" This is the reality of it whether you and I like it or not.

And so when a dictionary defines a word, it is quite reasonable to include it's derogatory definitions.

The dictionary does not condone the usage of a word in a specific way, just because it shows this definition or that. It simply states the ways that humans use the word.

So for crying out loud, if someone makes a dictionary, and says "gay" has an informal definition of "foolish"and "stupid" that does not mean the maker of the dictionary approves this usage of the word, he just shows that there is a reasonable number of people out there who use it in that way.

Cronus got a reaction from EChondo in Alleged new secret PS4 DRM in TOS
It doesn't matter. What do you think is about to happen? Do you think suddenly a day before release Sony is going to say "lolnousedgames", burn all their bridges with every retailer that deals in used titles instantly, and point at the less than a paragraph in their ToS to tell you why? It will be the end of them in the console space if they pull something like that. The PSN ToS is first and foremost the first line of defense to cover their butts legally, like any other one. Terms like this can be useful for any number of things, like preventing customers from blaming Sony if any of the publishers decide to lock down content that's on the disc, like so many of them do these days, or preventing those publishers from blaming Sony for allowing customers to be sold an incomplete or nonfunctional product. It covers software as well, which is already locked down.

Sony will be sued to hell if they misled the consumer in the way people are assuming they must be, and they'd face governmental charges as well in a lot of places. This whole issue is removed from reality.
