Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to boey in 4K 60Hz or 1440p 75Hz?
Good idea, some people notice the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz less than others. Good luck on finding your monitor

4K in general IMO
But do you need 100% sRGB? Because you'd just want a decent IPS panel in that case
what's your budget/country?
You can just run games at a lower resolution without issue on the 4K display. Or grab an RX 5700/XT for radeon image sharpening to cheat out 4k visuals/performance.

Yeah it won't be as good for the design bit, but tbh I'd get that one because difference between 144hz and 60/75hz is much greater than difference between IPS and VA
Where do you live? Are these monitor choices limited by any way(ie not many monitor choices in your country) or are you just shortlisting options?

I've tried searching for monitors in NZ, think that 1440p 144Hz VA one is the best option under $500. There are 1440p 144Hz IPS panels on newegg new zealand but they're just over at $560.

Any option for 1440p 144Hz? 75Hz isn't noticeable from 60Hz, and 4K isn't very distinguishable from 1440p on monitors that aren't very large(I'd say maybe <30", if you sit at an average distance from the screen). 144Hz on the other hand, makes the overall usage of your PC much smoother, except on some video playback(because most video streaming sites like Youtube only support up to 60FPS video). General usage like moving your mouse around and browsing the web will feel much more fluid. Everyone that I've convinced to switch to 144Hz find it hard to go back.
If those are the only 2 options, then I'd take the cheaper one, because 60Hz and 75Hz are basically the same thing and the rest of the specs are basically the same. 4K vs 1440p at this monitor size shouldn't be too noticeable, so I'd save money and get whichever's cheaper

upgrade from i5 to i7 (2nd hand) is not that expensive compare to complete platform swap.
$50-80 bucks on ebay.
you can still use the old motherboard, memory etc.
I recommend buying old i7 and a SSD if you don't have any.
I think 4th gen intel still good for current gpu.

but not a stunning deal, considering the amount of performance gained, compared to the amount of money paid.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

alright yeah then this
I mean if you really felt limited by the i5, an i7 from the same gen would be honestly fine

Just gaming I'd say. I think my current i5 would be enough for the kind of productivity I get up to anyways.

eh, with that cpu, if you bottleneck on the cpu side it's at a framerate where you may as well just add more eyecandy to load the GPU down.
i'd say stick with the cpu for now, and if it actually starts to show its age.. then look for a platform upgrade.

Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to DocSwag in Crucial MX500 or Samsung 860 EVO?
To be fair though, that's only the rating the manufacturer gives it. Often the NAND can survive far past the rated ratings. Plus, as you mentioned, for the majority of people that's way more than they would ever write to it.

Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to GDRRiley in Crucial MX500 or Samsung 860 EVO?
no, unless its a scratch disk or its having stuff constantly loaded on then moved off.
-
Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to GDRRiley in Crucial MX500 or Samsung 860 EVO?
well how long do you want to keep your drive?
My current 500GB 850EVO has had 14.5TB written over almost 3 years.
So are you likely to need it no, not for this workload but it will likely mean your drive lasts longer.

Mx500
Better GB/$ value
Performance difference is negligable

Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to kingmustard in Will the i5 4570 bottleneck the GTX 1070Ti?
It will.
Get an i7-6700K or something similar.

Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to Zeitec in Will the i5 4570 bottleneck the GTX 1070Ti?
It stuttered. So like the average framerate sat at around 60fps, but the .1% lows were like 20fps. That's what happens when you're CPU bottlenecked really hard.
-
Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to Zeitec in Will the i5 4570 bottleneck the GTX 1070Ti?
Yes it will. It'll range from a small bottleneck in some games, to pretty brutal and in others. I had a 3570k @ 4.4ghz (comparable to 4570) with a 1080 (comparable to 1080) and some games stuttered so bad it was borderline unplayable, for example Gears of War 4. Others had a literal 0% performance uplift going from my 780ti to my 1080, for example Fallout 4. Others only had a minor, but still noticable bottleneck, for example Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Honestly, unless you upgrade to something like a 4790, the best graphics card I'd pair with your 4570 is a 1060 6gb.

Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to Misanthrope in Will i5-4570 bottleneck a 1080?
This is coming up a lot.
1) Yes there is a bottleneck even with unlocked i5s
2) This bottleneck is only happening at 1080p for the most part.
3) The bottleneck usually shows far beyond 60 fps so it really only affects people with 1080p 120hz or 144hz monitors
For most people doing 1080p 60 FPS the card really outpaces most games (though not ALL games) at 1080p so much so than it has to wait for slower CPUs so it's not getting max usage.
The only real issue here is that people haven't upgraded from their 1080p monitors since the high end cards (1070 and 1080) are effectively kinda pointless at anything below 1440p. It doesn't means that most i5 are now useless or that hyperthreading would help you all that much anyway. It just means that the cards are literally too good for 1080p

Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to m0n4rchy in Will the i5 4570 bottleneck the GTX 1070Ti?
What would you be using this system for? If for gaming, what resolution, framerate, and settings?
P.S, the 1070 Ti is not THE most powerful GPU out there, but it's decent. It sits between the 1070 and 1080, performance-wise.
P.P.S, if you bought it in the U.S, the Zotac 1080 Mini isn't much more.
-
Top-Hat Meerkat reacted to Clemens in Will the i5 4570 bottleneck the GTX 1070Ti?
And also...it depends on the game and or application, the resolution, etc...
And at some point there is always something bottlenecking the other thing.
In fact is easy: are you happy with the current results? If not compare your scores with benchmarks on the internet with the same GPU, app and resolution...if your result is signifcantly less you can assume a CPU upgrade would probably help. (Oh and if you are happy with the current framerates then just don't worry be happy, even if there is a CPU bottleneck)

You're good, that's a suitable combo.
The mini cards fare just about as well as standard cards, unless you overclock (and don't mind the accompanying noise of course)
