GTX 1070 bottlenecked with an i5 4570?

Top-Hat Meerkat

Would an i5 4570 bottleneck a GTX 1070? I know in games such as first person shooters there won't be much of a bottleneck, but what about in very CPU intensive games such as X-Plane 11, which can utilise all four cores.

In X-Plane the 1070 is almost pointless if I remember correctly.

But @AlwaysFSX is the person to talk about.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Why is the GTX 1070 pointless in X-Plane? It is the "recommended" GPU for X-Plane 11.

I can only speak about my experience with FSX, wherein graphics power doesn't matter much. I'm sorry. It might be best to ask in the X-Plane forums

XP11 is so unoptimized at the moment you're not going to go above 30fps basically no matter what your computer is. 10 I'm not sure, I've played it a fair amount but don't have a lot of varying hardware experience with it, you might be better off going to an X Plane forum and asking them.

But generally, performance improvements plateau in X Plane, you might be limited by the i5.

I currently have an i5 4570 and a GTX 960 2GB with 16GB or RAM, and I am not experiencing any optimisation issues in X-Plane 11.

XP10 and XP11. I have both, and both are running well. I am running X-Plane 11 on high settings, with the water reflection detail on medium. People might have issues because they overload their computer with tons of AI aircraft.

Most people I've talked to have been having horrible performance in 11, like barely being able to break 30 fps even with monster rigs and not having settings jacked up.

Has there been a recent patch?

I updated yesterday, but I have been running it since a couple of weeks ago with no performance issues. Tell them to cut down to 3 AI aircraft (or less if needed), and turn water reflection detail down, which should help performance a lot. If they have less than 16GB of RAM, tell them to turn the "number of world objects" down.

AI have been turned off completely in all cases. I haven't flown in 11 in a few days so I'll go update and run it again. Even dropping all of my settings it still runs pretty bad and I'm not sure why.

Maybe they've capped the the frame rate. My frame rate seems to be capped to around 30 as well, though it feels smoother than that. I can turn the graphics settings up, and it still stays to around 30. I guess we have to wait and see how performance is when it comes out of beta.

Does seem to be capped around 30 but for me and my friends it's been bouncing between 22-24 and it stutters like mad.

I haven't had any stuttering... Have you turned the "Number of world objects" (or whatever it's called) slider down? The stuttering could be caused by the game needing more memory, and it is the scenery that uses up most of your RAM.

I've turned it all the way down, and it's not anywhere close to using up my 14 gigs of ram.

Weird that it is turned down and it hasn't helped with performance despite the fact that he has 14GB of RAM.

Haven't played the game, but the only way I can think of having 14GB is 1x2GB + 3x4GB or 1x2GB + 1x4GB + 1x8GB.
