Will i5-4570 bottleneck a 1080?

I currently have an i5-4570@3.2GHz and a GTX 980. I'm wondering if a 1080 will bottleneck the CPU?

I'm asking since i've noticed my CPU is sometimes at 100% usage when I play games such as The Witcher 3 and sometimes GTA V. Which leads me to think the 1080 would probably bottleneck it a bit?

Most likely will. There is evidence that a 1070 is bottlnecked by an i5 4690k which I plan on testing later this week to confirm or deny the rumors.

Oh damn. I was planning on spending the rest on a 1440p monitor, but which CPU would you guys recommend as a replacement for my current?

Yea, if I can confirm the bottleneck on the 4690k I will be upgrading myself to the 4790k at the end of the month.

instead of a 4790k you could get a Xeon E3-1231V3 which is almost as powerfull for $110 less

This is coming up a lot.

1) Yes there is a bottleneck even with unlocked i5s

2) This bottleneck is only happening at 1080p for the most part.

3) The bottleneck usually shows far beyond 60 fps so it really only affects people with 1080p 120hz or 144hz monitors

For most people doing 1080p 60 FPS the card really outpaces most games (though not ALL games) at 1080p so much so than it has to wait for slower CPUs so it's not getting max usage.

The only real issue here is that people haven't upgraded from their 1080p monitors since the high end cards (1070 and 1080) are effectively kinda pointless at anything below 1440p. It doesn't means that most i5 are now useless or that hyperthreading would help you all that much anyway. It just means that the cards are literally too good for 1080p

Finally a reasonable answer ;)

Don't have benchmarks but it's safe to assume with that many pixels games will be GPU bound again.
