That's quite a chonker. Reminds me of when I got my RM1000x after only having 400 and 550W power supplies.

I would expect it to be the second option. But it's up to the developer to decide which way they go with this.

The first one is needlessly complicated (for you as well as the engine). The engine needs to set the horizontal and vertical resolution. So it would have to do X * Y * .75, then use the resulting number of pixels and calculate the X and Y resolution for that using the monitor's aspect ratio.

Your 2070 Super should be more than enough for most basic to intermediate stuff. By the time you feel the need for a more powerful GPU (and it'll likely be due to vram issues), you could go for an used 3090 for cheap or just use a cloud instance.

My take is that during the pandemic, Nvidia learned that people will buy their GPUs at scalper prices. Because of this, Nvidia increased the price themselves because they figured they could make more money per card without necessarily shipping hardware that justified the higher prices.

I guess people aren't as willing to pay scalper prices as Nvidia thought they were.

People bought GPUs in droves during the pandemic. We saw this with the sales numbers these companies were quoting - Nvidia's sales figures throughout the pandemic were really good.

These GPUs don't need replacing yet. So people aren't.

So this was a fun one, wound up selling my evga 1600 G2 to a friend for £190, and snagged this beauty for £160, pretty pleased all told

@OP, if this sounds scary, booting without a cooler is only dangerous for prolonged periods. Booting just to see if there's a POST for <1 minute is perfectly fine.

It was for personal reasons. I would like to share but I'll have to leave it at that, only a few know the real reason I joined.
It wasn't for the money, school or bonuses. I never used any of the incentives I was given.
It did, however, do for me exactly what I needed it for, and I am glad I joined. I served, I learned, I grew, and I became honored.

Unfortunately, ARC GPU's aren't mature enough for most user's daily gaming.

I tried AMD once, had driver issues in 3/4 games I was trying to play (5700XT, about half a year after release)

Because of those two things, I'd still grab Nvidia off the shelf, but I can't convince myself to pay more than $500 for a GPU. I theoretically should, I would love to play more PC games on my OLED, but my PS5 does more than well enough for sightseeing games so a 3060 (paired with a 240Hz 1080p BenQ) stays in my rig for CS:GO, older games, and the occasional game that isn't released on PS.

Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from Levent in What is it like only owning Apple's "productivity" products instead of an iPhone?
Lifelong Windows user here, recently switched to macOS daily via 2019 MacBook Pro 16".
Owning a non-Apple phone with an Apple machine is by far superior and a better experience than using an Apple phone with a Windows or Linux machine.

I'll start by saying I would kill to have this laptop, or one similar to it, but with Apple's MagSafe power adapter. USB-C is nice, but MagSafe is superior to everything. Similarly, Apple's trackpad is also superior to anything found on a Windows laptop. The keyboard, barring the 2016-2018 models, is nicer to type on than most of the other Windows laptops I've used in my life. This video from LTT talks about Sleep States, and one really big thing Apple does way better than Microsoft in ~99% of cases: battery life and sleep.

As far as software goes, everything I do on Windows I can do on macOS, except gaming. I'm okay with that because I don't play games from my laptop anyway. I have never used iCloud. Most things can be configured, as well: I have Siri turned off, and the Siri button removed from the Touchbar. Similarly, I can also configure the Touchbar to do different things. I can even have it just display Function keys if I want to.

I'm not gonna say macOS is superior to Windows, but I do enjoy the experience of using a MacBook more than a Windows laptop.

You are not forced to use Apple's keyboard or their mouse. I would recommend their keyboard just because the macOS keybinds are a bit different, so it's useful to know which key actually does what without needing to think about it, but it is not required. I've used a 2010 27" iMac with Apple's keyboard, a Cooler Master keyboard, and a Cooler Master mouse. It works just fine.

I feel like an 8700K is still good enough that it shouldn't bottleneck most modern graphics cards. I might be inclined to look for an RTX 2080 or RTX 3070.

I'd also recommend you upgrade the PSU and GPU in one go, if you're able.

    AMD socket/CPU?

You're fine, provided no pins were damaged. Just make sure to run the PC a little bit next time so the thermal paste isn't hard. You can also twist the heatsink a little bit to separate it from the CPU before you pull it directly off. You can also just twist the CPU off the heatsink(don't drop it or bend the pins) and install it back into the motherboard.

This is a problem that has plagued AMD CPUs since before the AM2 socket.
