Good luck. They definitely made it a bit more difficult with the new revamps. Working on my CCNP now, switch completed, Route and troubleshoot still left to take.

You are right on that, My mistake. When I first got into cisco I was always told that was the case with standard ACL's, after that never bothered to mess with them besides redistributing static routes back into a dynamic protocol so never had the need to modify the sequence order, so I didnt bother with them ever again just went straight to extended and never looked back.

    1-99 are standard acl's. 100-199 are extended.
Please for the love of God do not use numbered ACL's.
Named are alot easier to manage as well as being able to insert lines in between statements incase you need to modify them in the future. General rule of thumb I go by is set increment the statements by 5. This way if you need to permit something almost identical but with different IP's you can do that and have similar statements in the same general area so its not a nightmare trying to find out which part of the ACL is doing what.

With the numbered ones you need to remove the ACL completely if you wish to change one line.

Oh dont forget to remove it from the interface before you modify any ACL. You can get locked out very easily if you do not.

SOUTHwarrior reacted to Blade of Grass in Does your ping depend on the internet speed ?
Let's not get our terms mixed up. Download and upload is a measure of network throughput, and throughput is a measurement of speed. In networking speed refers to how fast you can send data (5MB per second, for example). Now, latency on the other hand is how long it takes for the data to go from point a to point b. This is ping.
Ping times can be independent or dependent on speed. If your network is being maxed, then your ping will get higher (because packets have to wait in queue which takes up additional time), but, your network will usually have a 'base ping' that it will normally be around (assuming you're not mexed) because that is the time it physically takes for your data to travel through the network to the server.

You will need to do this (instructions are based on the WRT160Nv2 firmware; hopefully your router has similarly-named entries):
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the main router to your WRT54GS router. Under the Setup -> Basic Setup -> Network Setup section, change the Router IP address to 192.168.0.x (make sure your main router is not handing out this IP address). Optional: Write down this IP address on a sticky note and put it it on the underside of the WRT router, away from the vent holes. Otherwise, if you forgot the IP address, you will need to factory reset it to regain access. Disable the DHCP server. Your main router will do all the DHCP work. Save the settings. Plug the Ethernet cable into one of the 1-4 ports. Do not plug anything into the WAN port. This will convert your WRT router into an access point + 4-port switch.

If you want to use the WAN port for future expansion (ie. AP + 5-port switch), you may have to consider alternative firmwares like TomatoUSB or DD-WRT.

I have the CCNP and it is really only effective to get you in the door of a company. Most companies are really good at finding the people that have just "paper" CCNP's.

I am really glad though that I got it as the number of recruiters that contact me to try to "poach" me has gone through the roof and that always equates to more money.

My advice is to steer clear of dumps just to get the paper and do it for real, If you can pass it without the dumps then you should see the benefit from it.

As for the study materials, I have a lot of the older books as I took the old versions of the route/switch/tshoot, but they would still be really good resources, I would also make GNS3 and packet tracer your friends.

If you guys have any questions thought from your studies please hit me up.

If u are in US, there are a lot of demand and positions available, I work in VOIP engineering, but I do not posses any certification!! Its all about what you know and how you implement it. I have interviewed hands full of candidates for junior IPT engineer/Tech who are fresh out of CCNA, CCNP certification who gives absolute BS answers to my technical interview questions.

Those certifications are only good for the recruiters to look into. If you don't posses the in depth methodology, you wont pass the 2nd round/technical interview

SOUTHwarrior reacted to dalekphalm in Loss for an extremely long Cat 6 cable
What do you need to run 1000 feet of cable for, if you don't mind me asking?

As others have mentioned, Ethernet Cable has a max length of 100m (or around 330 feet). This will be the same regardless of the Category Level (Cat5/5e/6/6a/7, etc). There are inherent limits in copper.

For such long distances, you'll either 2 repeater units (a small box that you plug each of the three 100m cables into, to string them all together). Keep in mind that repeaters draw power, so each repeater must be near a power source.

Alternatively, you simply use a different kind of cable, such as Fibre Optic. For example, 1000BASE‑LX cable is rated up to 550m (Around 1800 ft) when using standard multi-mode fibre cables.

You'd need special network equipment at either end (Special LAN card or Switch on either end), but it would likely be the best solution. Not necessarily cheap though, no matter which way you do it.

Not better. More reliable. Unlike cable which is a shared median Phone lines are dedicated circuits so you are more likely to hit the advertised speed you purchase anytime during the day unlike cable where it varies depending on how many people are online. And depending how close your are to the CO your speeds can vary as well there too.

Video stored locally on the PC, but station software client was running. It was on my machine (set the nas up with a friend). The video was on the harddrive in my pc. I could verify my buttstation software as the reason. My friend had the same problem on his computer (mine a desktop, his a laptop). The NAS was not guilty, the software on the computer was.

Programs would not run that fast off a NAS, games would be slow as well. There is a utility that can store your steam games somewhere else and do the copy process for you. So you could store the games you are currently not using there but playing them directly of the NAS does not work well.
