JustLovett0 got a reaction from Uttamattamakin in OpenAI unveils "Sora." A prompt-based short video generator with amazing results
    - - Summary
OpenAI announced “Sora,” a text-to-video generator that will take prompts in a similar way to Dall-E to create short video clips.

If these showcased prompts are what you would typically expect to see out of the Sora video model, OpenAi is VERY quickly advancing the quality of their machine learning’s results. It is still in the early testing stages and not available for public testing in any capacity, but I am VERY excited to see the limits of what Sora can generate. Good to see the typical “ai look” of videos morphing constantly might just be fixed.

JustLovett0 got a reaction from thechinchinsong in New Californian Law to allow residents to easily scrub all of their online data from in-state data brokers
    .
    Summary
Signed into Law this past week, Californians will soon be able to request all of their data be deleted in an easy and free way from close to 500 Data Brokers based in the state. By January 1st, 2026, the California Privacy Protection Agency is working to implement this mechanism for residents. However, it is not until August 1st, 2026 that processing deletion requests must be done within 45 days of the request being made.

Shame that this act won't go into effect for two more years, but it is a great step in the right direction. Private companies like Incogni already offer a paid service to have this done on a larger scale, but if this "Free and Easy" data scrubbing becomes nationwide for the USA, it would allow a lot more people to easily regain some online privacy.

I have the Download Links (And downloaded .zip) for the Super Mario 64 port to PC that got taken down today.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post the direct link here on the forum, so either anyone from Staff that can let me know if that's cool to post the link, or anyone at LMG that needs the link (Linus mentioned wanting the download on the WAN show today at about 6:50PST.)

That's pretty much the norm nowadays, modern websites use  a lot of images, CSS, and JavaScript so they're pretty RAM-intensive.

The processes you're seeing aren't all tabs though.
In Chrome your extensions and plugins also run as separate processes, you can view the individual RAM & CPU usage of these processes with their proper names by going to Settings > More tools > Task Manager (or press Shift + Esc).

In Edge you can already see the proper names of the processes via the Windows Task Manager, the Chakra JIT Compiler for example is what executes the JavaScript on a given webpage.

Yeah, don't worry about this all one bit. Browsers today are normally able and known to use a lot of Ram, and on occasion CPU usage. As TakataruMC said:
Chrome has many techniques it uses to give you the best user experience, including using many processes to take up different resources and allocate for different tasks specifically, so don't worry about it. Edge is quite lesser known for doing this, and if you truly are worried, many people use either FireFox or Opera as less ram-intensive alternatives.

(This post already has a lot of comments saying all of this, I just wanted to give a short and concise summary of it all.)

JustLovett0 reacted to Theguywhobea in College - Mechatronics/Comp. Engineering: What Computer do I need?
I took computer engineering and it never required really any computer horsepower. I suspect if you need to do CAD work you'll need a little more power but I don't think you'll need anything crazy. If you need something to take to class or the library I'd value battery life over raw power. Check out some ultrabooks or some 15in laptops with something like an MX150 or a 1050, those should do you well.

i have a 7700hq and 1050ti with 16gb ram and it's way much than i really need. A cheap dell with a 8520u and mx150 will probably be enough, unless you will do modeling. I'm studying computer science and compile programs regularly but i usually have my cpu set to 40% power and it's still enough

Do you have a price limit?
Look into a lunchbox PC. All the portability (more or less) of a laptop with the expand-ability and power of a desktop. Best of both worlds, if you've got the dosh for it.
