Only scummy companies are scared of unions because they know they won't be able to fuck their staff over anymore. In the UK unions have done a lot of good work especially these days. In the past some got a bad name but these days a lot of unions will really help you out. Companies think twice before fucking you over if you are part of a union. The US could really use with a lot more unions.

YoBoiAang reacted to Master Disaster in The UK House Of Lords says lootboxes are gambling, calls for immediate reclassification and regulation on their sale
Gambling here in the UK is VERY tightly restricted and no, it cannot "just become legal". I believe (though I might be wrong on the numbers) that any game with up to £100 stake is considered low tier, these types of games (usually fruit machine type games) are more freely available but still subject to huge restrictions. Anything over £100 is restricted by license, no license, no go. In all cases the law is very clear that you must be at least 18 years old to participate in these activities. Once this goes through any game with Lootbox mechanics will instantly become 18 only (and not just your current advisory system, strictly 18 only like tobacco and alcohol) and anybody selling them will be responsible to making sure the purchaser is over 18, anybody caught selling to under 18s will be fined and might even end up in prison. This will result in most stores pulling these games from shelves.

You really think EA will want that for Fifa on basically its home turf?

A lot of studios have already backed off Lootboxes, I'll be interested to see how EA handle this for FUT.

Here comes the Linus told you so on WAN show moment: BMW seems to be taking the first real step towards "cars as a service" by making safety and comfort features optional to buy for a limited/permanent time period.

Jup, "next-level gouging" seems pretty to be pretty much on point

Is this really the group of people that needs to save money? Seems like a lazy excuse to make more money in the end. Also "vehicle as a platform" seems to be the industry term instead of "cars as a service"?
I feel like there are already way too many options on cars, especially from German brands (though I myself am from Germany so I might not look at this subjectively).
As we have seen with Tesla already.

First time posting here, so I'm not experienced with how to summarise the article, sorry for that.

    My thoughts
Well, Linus told everyone and I personally don't see cars as a service not happening in the future. Still this is a terrible move for consumers, as BMW is basically just pulling the EA move here and putting micro transactions into their product.

Personally I trust the US even less.
Right now we suspect that China does a bunch of bad stuff such as spying and building backdoors, but have very little evidence for it.
We already have evidence that the US does all the bad stuff Huawei are being accused of (on the networking side).

So choosing US companies over Chinese one is like picking guaranteed evil over probable evil.

Why though? Copying other brands is almost a given now days lol but I highly doubt there is any spying going on. The NSA has already done extensive spying in 2006-2009 and found nothing

I like how people think Hauwei was created 2 years ago for the sole reason to spy on the US. It's been around since the 80s and that also means no 5G as they are the sole owners of 5G network gear. All the 5G you see is fake too

Wooah, now you went too far with that, most companies try to centralize the repair business in one way or another:

    - Bricking the phone for replacing the fingerprint sensor is unlikely to be an accident, not to mention that the fingerprint is not stored in the button (is processed and stored in the SoC) so the "security reasons" makes no sense.

    https://techcrunch.com/2016/02/18/apple-apologizes-and-updates-ios-to-restore-iphones-disabled-by-error-53/

    - After an update, devices with screen replaced by 3rd parties suddenly stopped working
    https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/04/10/ios-113-upgrade-fatal-for-some-repaired-iphone-8-screens-done-by-third-party-shops

    - They just lost a sue in Norway against a 3rd party who was openly refurbishing iPhones (which is different from counterfeit)

Coming from the company with the most optimized OS, these situations were not "oopsies". When you are using porpietary connections, using solder and glue everywhere, machine-gunning legal actions and making difficult for non original parts to reach the US, you are definitely making hard for 3rd parties to repair the devices.

Also, the "Mecca for hackers" thing also makes no sense if the data on the phone is fully encrypted, giving information about how to repair and selling parts have nothing to do with security. Not to mention their lobbying against Fair Repair Act.
