TeoIzAwezome reacted to aries1470 in Intel releases 16 core CPU for $449 USD
Intel finally released their 16 Core CPU priced at $449 USD.
This is a low power 32W CPU belonging to the Intel ATOM family line of CPU's.
For more details you can read here:
Announcement with general information, was released earlier in the year: C3000 series from Anandtech
Updated article
Information from extremetech
Information from Hexus
Currently, there are two motherboards that I was able to find.
One from SuperMicro, and the other from Gigabyte.
Please note, that the server division of Gigabyte is seperate from their consumer division.
This news is now a week old. Will Linus make a video about its performance?
Only time will tell.
EDIT: Intel page.
Some sites quote it as 32W while intel quote its as 31W. Base Speed: 2.0GHz No Turbo.
Edit2:
Review of the C3955 not the 3958

TeoIzAwezome reacted to Zando_ in How many of you actually buy windows? Be honest please
I don't. I scrounge old Windows keys of my dad's broken laptops or PCs I get given (They actually work too). Or I just run it without a license, all it does is disable changing the colors and give you a watermark.

TeoIzAwezome reacted to Oshino Shinobu in How many of you actually buy windows? Be honest please
Poll would be good for this kind of question.
I buy Windows, but not at retail price. I typically spend about £30 on the license. I figure it's worth at least that much for a one time purchase for the software that allows everything else to run. Security updates and support are also nice to have. Considering what you get, £30 isn't much.
EDIT: Compared to professional software, Windows costs nothing. I don't see why people are so opposed to paying for it.

I would prefer just a Material Design overhaul of the current layout. Even something like this forum looks a lot more modern , but I do agree that the current design does 100% of what everyone needs and wants besides the appearance.

TeoIzAwezome reacted to LAwLz in AMD Won't be livestreaming Siggraph and Vega's launch
I am honestly not too bothered by this.
Press events are 90% marketing and lies anyway, and I am sure sites like Anandtech will do live blogs.
Vega doesn't look promising though, and I doubt this move will fill their fans with confidence.
Side note: I totally can't wait for the endless stream of "just wait for better drivers!" to flood every single GPU discussion if Vega ends up not being that good.
My guess is that it will either be the driver argument or the "FreeSync monitors are much cheaper!" argument that people will clutch to if Vega is a failure.

Some perspective is key. If someone said in 2015 that AMD would be competitive in both cpu AND gpu performance by 2017 we would call them a crazy person.
AMD has fixed their cpu problem. Let them generate some cash, and I'm sure they can do better on the gpu front. Cpu performance is and should be the priority as it's going to secure their future.

I meant EPYC, so it might as well be third and fourth. Intel makes most of it's money from the two socket server market, if AMD comes in and steals that Intel won't be viable as a company for much longer. Intel is REALLY bad at managing its money, it makes a lot of it and does stupid shit with it.

Ah man their Xeon beats a mainstream desktop cpu? Who'da guessed?
This is some seriously desperate marketing from Intel pretty devious
