Seriously fuck this government, things aren't going to change without people actually doing something instead of posting on facebook HUR DUR Power to the people. That's what they want people who won't actually get out of their chairs and DO something about it. I love the UK but I fucking hate the government with a passion

Balde got a reaction from done12many2 in A truly custom water cooling loop
I'd love to see what you guys think of my nice and sketchy custom water cooling loop.

It all started off when I started looking into water cooling after Linus' 7 gamers 1 CPU video ( It was technically two but we'll gloss over that  ). The idea of a custom loop doing something like that made me think of water cooling my own computer, a slightly less powerful machine mind you. The All-in-one loops were affordable but very limited in terms of expansion and the custom water cooling gear such as the excellent stuff from EK was way too expensive for what I wanted. So I made a compromise: Using the cheapest possible components off Amazon and 3d printing to make my own loop.

I made my own loop all with purchasable parts a while back which you can find here:

However that only handled the CPU, and that's boring!

So for why I needed to 3D Print... All the cheap radiators are made of aluminium which would be fine, except most of the water blocks are made of copper. (This mixing metals would probably corrode sooner or later as was pointed out to me in the above thread) However there were also a few made of aluminium, the only catch is: no mounting hardware. So since I was making custom mounting hardware for the CPU anyway I decided to make some for the GPU too, I mean, how hard could it be?

So I fired up OpenSCAD and made up some mounting hardware. If you want to build a similar loop the .scad files included are parametric so you can change the GPU holes if you want to use it on your card. The mounting hardware uses 4 short screws and 4 longer screws and the 4 screws around the GPU die. It mounts two of these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/BQLZR-40x40x12mm-Radiator-Aluminum-Cooling/dp/B00L2869NG?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
One for the CPU and one for the GPU, all other parts other than the copper water block were reused from my old loop.
    OpenSCAD Files:

    As far as performance goes:
It's not much better than an air cooler but it is MUCH quieter. The CPU maxes out at about 60 degrees on its own, same for the GPU ( Using FurMark ). When both maxed out they reached a peak of about 70 degrees on CPU and about 60 degrees on the GPU after 10 minutes.

Anyway here are some pictures of the system and the mounting hardware:

There will be the same amount of heat dissipated but it will be less efficient, meaning the thermal difference from the CPU to the air will have to be higher to achieve the same dissipation. This means your CPU will run at a hotter stable temperature which can reduce CPU lifespan.
    So basically:
    You should.

Not sure about in-game temps but it still sounds like a plane taking off in GTA5 so i figured it would be similar temperatures

It's been like this since i got it. I've already cleared the fins of dust after installing the loop but no difference in thermals.

Balde reacted to GeekaWhat in Decline in Content Quality & Exclusivity of Content
Unlike others I am going to mention this in what I feel is a fair manor.

Since the new office move I feel LMG content has declined in quality. I understand the lack of new product releases lately is ultimately gonna lead to a lack of GREAT videos, however yesterday I watched Linus put 8 GPUs into a 32 core beast server and today 'How to Install a GPU' like come on. I know this is a scrapyard wars week and this has led to videos that have to be faster to produce but I don't feel scrapyard wars, which will probably drag on too long at the end should lead to a week in which content is imo pretty sh*t. I feel aside from the xmas pc modding, fallout build guide, server videos, 7 gamers 1 CPU and the latest holy sh*t video it has all been quite disappointing. We haven't seen a build guide in the new office, like a full tutorial - I love those - especially the ULTIMATE ones!

I would however like to say the quality of editing has drastically increased, as has filming - not to say some sexy graphics overlays from Edzel really gave LTT videos a quirky look before and I feel LTT needs more of this.

To address the exclusive Nerd Sports, I'll be honest I was initially p*ssed. However seeing @LinusTech post on the forum about it I now fully understand why and have ti say I love the idea. Exclusivity and content behind a paywall is always gonna be controversial, but providing it doesn't take away from other content (for which it seems that way this week) I fully agree with the move, and whilst I am yet to make a decision may be the sole reason i renew vessel membership!

Linus my personal viewpoint/advice on this would be not to take on too much  I love some of the latest LTT videos but others have been awful imo. I understand this time of year lacks for product releases but aside the 'show style format' more reviews would be great - because that's what you do best. From new employees that you have mentioned it seems you are facilitating for all this new content you plan to make.

Tech quickie has also been superb lately.

Finally Brandon, Edzel, Taran and John are great on camera and seeing more of them would be great.

This is all subjective I know but these are my opinions and if you were to see this I hope I have put across an unbiased argument and would love to know what everyone on the forum thinks.

Balde got a reaction from Promaja in Extrememely cheap custom water cooling loop ( Under 80 dollars )
One of the ideas behind this custom loop is that I plan to add a GPU water block to this loop. Being new I wanted to at least start off with a semi standard block with the correct mounting hardware, the prices for GPU water blocks are quite high already and to make things worse my card is a non-reference design so a proper GPU water block was a no-go to me. The main idea behind this loop was to test if these cheapo components would work better than my air cooling gear. It worked so well though that i thought i should share it . My plan from the start was to 3D print a GPU water block holder for this thing, and for obvious reasons hot glue the crap out of it. Hope this explains my reasons for doing this.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUILDING THIS LOOP, THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS OUT THERE IF YOU JUST WANT CPU COOLING

Ok, with that out the way :

Custom water cooling for under 60 quid ( 80 dollars )!
    ( Or about 100 Canadian rupees )

This is just for the CPU. I'll edit soon on how the GPU cooling goes!
This guide assumes you already have two 120mm fans ( LTT edition preferred  ), needle nose pliers, side cutters ( scissors will do ), some long screws and some zip ties

Somewhat inspired by the Scrapyard Wars water cooling challenge I set on a quest to water cool my pc, for a cheap as possible. The end result wasn't pretty but it was quiet and effective. Running an i7-4790 non k at full using FurMark's CPU burner got to a max of 52 degrees celsius in a fairly warm room and idles of about 30 degrees.
Using a few spare parts and Amazon I found the cheapest ( new ) parts possible to liquid cool your PC. The prices are all in GBP as I live in the UK.

    8mm ID x 11mm OD Clear PVC Tubing Pipe Hose 5 Metres - £4.01
    Yosoo(TM) SC-300T 12V DC Ultra-Quiet Water Cooling Pump max.300L/h For CPU Cooling System - £16.99
Universal Computer CPU Water Cooling Block Head Radiator and Pagodas 50x50mm Copper Base Cool Inner Channel - £13.75
240mm Multifunction CPU Water Cool SystemAluminum Heat Exchanger Computer Radiator - £20.88

That's a grand total of £55.63 including shipping.

One problem with this loop is that it's mixed metal so will corrode pretty easily. You'll probably want a biocide or silver coil too so they bump up the cost by about 15 quid or 20 dollars:

Mayhems 0609224351037 Mayhems Fine Silver Kill Coil - £9.13
Swiftech HYDRX watercooling Fluid for Anti-corrosive - £6.99

    Total : £16.12
    Grand Total : £71.75

A bit more expensive but not exactly breaking the bank.
(Thanks to W-L for pointing this out)

You can generally follow any of linus' water-cooling guides ( well, except whole room ) such as the water cooling parts of this one:

Keep in mind there are a few caveats as this hardware is not exactly premium:

If you've got any questions i'll try to answer them as soon as possible!
