  1. My dad can't remember what TV channel ABC is. I think you're underestimating how hard it is being old.
  2. I use my 2016 MBP for virtualization tasks, so the best case scenario is losing a lot of performance in virtual workloads - I'd have to switch back to Windows for an upgrade. In the end, I think my use case is super niche, but it affects me personally, so - I'm not for them switching. Ultimately, I've been saying it would happen for a long time, though. It felt inevitable.
  3. those are steals at 248 pounds... unless other parts are as inexpensive in the UK.
  4. You know what's crazy about the GTX 1660 TI? The performance per dollar is the same as the RTX 2060. Obviously, it depends on your budget, but that 2060 isn't looking as bad as some made it sound at launch.
  5. https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007709 601302833 A Vega 56 for 279 would be a great deal if you want to go AMD (or even if you don't care about the manufacturer), but there are none.
  6. Offline variation of this attack: https://xkcd.com/538/
  7. There are a few government websites in the US that are starting to require Firefox or Chrome. I got a 'this browser is not supported' while using IE11 (my go to browser for government sites, because most still use it as the required browser)
  8. Sounds like there has never been a time to get into Web App Development. . . They cant. See above. IE is like the Land Before Time series. There are way more than you'd have expected if you didn't follow it.
  9. I can't wait until the RTX 2060 and GTX 1160 are the same card but one doesn't have the additional circuitry for RT, DLSS, and other stuff.
  10. It's an extra million pixels over 3440x1440. This is basically the proportionate difference between going from 2560x1440 to 2560x1600 (minus the aspect ratio change). 5040x2160 (10.8 million pixels) at 144Hz would be too hard to drive. Without compression, DP1.4 can only drive 98Hz at 4K with HDR. To reach an additional 2.6 million pixels at more than 60 FPS, you would need a new display port connector and a new graphics card (and the monitor). Unless you mean just a 16:9 version. The PG277UQ from Asus (or the Acer version I forget the name of) would honestly be cheaper, but only 27 inches. Some expect the 34+ inch version this year, but if you have to ask the price, you're better off buying another monitor.
  11. Something tells me we will see a bunch (or at least one from Asus) of ~27inch 4K OLEDs at CES, but I doubt any of them have release dates announced or more than 'in 2019'. Probably 16:9 only though.
  12. Everyone pretends like it's so bad to play at 1080p (with RT ON), but the 25% of gamers are at 720p. A GTX 2050 might be strong enough for 720p with RT ON. I think the RTX series should stay xx70 and above, but if Nvidia thinks it's worth pushing for the 720p crowd, I could see it happening.
  13. When you have to test your updates against so many hardware variations, sometimes bugs pop out. ... Oh wait. . .
  14. They're "curved" iPads. The curve makes it more immersive for gaming.
  15. Not quite. Most 5G implementations come with significant things to ensure quality of signal is going up as well. You'll have more 5G capable devices in an area before seeing signal degrade like you do with current 3G and 4G implementations.
  16. Just watching Linus' video on it - I wanted to gag. Walmart has earned their reputation for being a cheap shit distributor, but I was expecting slightly better from it for some reason. The corners they cut were insane. Not painting the back of the PSU saved < 0.01 cents. It looks like shit without it. Then having QC problems like they did - it makes me wonder why they even bothered to put the money down to even bother selling them. (selling a product, especially a brand, isn't free...) I just didn't get the point of this. It might be harder - but I would think Walmart would be more interested in Mac Minis or Intel NUC style builds than gaming desktops (a much more niche product...)
  17. Or it could be to avoid a potential let down if the real number is closer to 5%.
  18. Did that propel the taxi industry into relevance? ----------- It is expected that by 2030 some cars may not even have steering wheels. Once cars reach Driving Autonomy Level 4 or especially 5, interaction with the car will no longer be required by the user. It might even be counter productive to let them interact with it (outside of inputting destinations). I can see a world where the car can fuel and drive itself, leaving the average rider to do things that we wouldn't do before. Imagine if you have to drive 20 hours to see family. Right now, that's a 2 day drive at the very least. In theory, you could just rent a long distance travel vehicle, leave before you would typically go to bed, sleep in the car, and make stops as you need (food, toilet, shower?) - all without ever needing to make a major stop for a hotel room. Self driving cars are expected to have a huge impact on the way we deal with cars, from ownership and insurance to other paradigms today.
  19. Now... if only AMD could do what they did for CPUs with Zen for GPUs...
