The 480 impressed me with how good it heated up my room in the winter  

HD4870 / HD4870 x2 / HD4890 - these things were the bomb back in their days.
Also the latest maxwell gpus. Performance increase is nothing spectacular but its performance/watt ratio is impressive.

I drunk a bit yesterday and surfed a bit in my favourite onlinestore. When I woke up today I noticed that I was probably shortly before ordering a X99/Quad-TitanX PC with some monitors for 10k I think I should log off the next time I do that stuff.

Could you imagine buying it, and not even realising, then a week later all these parcels arrive unexpectedly.

I think you should wait, as even if the 300 series sucks, the 970 is probably going to drop.

Pascal will be the 1000 series so a cut down titan x as a 980 ti makes perfect sense

I agree with you.. I would say yes... If thats if you have the money. But first.. wait untill the card comes out like MLG said.. and see which one is actually better.

its beautiful.... sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful... ive never set my eyes on 1440p or 4k monitor before... everything is just soooo clear....  ive spent the last hour or two just looking at 1440p images and choosing wallpapers...  i havent even tested a game yet...

I dont think i could ever use a 1080p monitor again.     cant wait to see what g-sync and 144hz make games feel like!!!  havent set my eyes on those either so this is a first!!

Before some crazy fanboy tries to bite my head off, The reason is because GCN cards have the same upscaling technology as the current Gen gaming consoles, enabled in CCC. For a lot of web content that isn't designed for 4K, the upscaler in GCN will make images appear a lot sharper on 4k. Nvidia currently does not have this ability. If you haven't already purchased the components, grab an AMD APU and be done with it, they also have the GCN upscaler.

I would wait with that 4k monitors till they get more affordable. And even 2 GTX 980 probably wont be enough for 4k@stable 60fps on one monitor. Depends on the game though.
 
Edit: And I dont think that these 2 cards will really last 4-5 years unless you want to turn the settings down
