Weightloss Thread

ApplePi

I've been on the Ketogenic Diet for a few months now and I've been pretty happy with the results, I've lost 4 belt sizes so far and have gotten down from a 38 to a 34in waist. I don't own a scale but I would recon that I've lost nearly 40lbs thus far. I've always been quite heavyset growing up, though it didn't really show as I am 6'6". It's interesting go out on the weekends as people will come up and talk to me which has never happened before.

What about you guys?

Just wondering what people refer to when they say I eat less. I use to be super health nut and workout guru. I plan on getting back into working out and losing about 10lbs.

A lot of people I know think it means to stop eating 2-3 meals a day and only eat once with less calories which is not healthy at all.

I've lost about 5 pounds over the last few months by just sticking to water or almond milk and by snacking on healthier items instead of chips. Plus, I've tried to put ~1 hour on an exercise bike per day on the setup I posted here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/183-show-off-your-setup/page-488#entry4353802

Then again, I'm not really overweight - 6 feet tall and ~160 pounds.

That's retarded. :P

Just limit it, 500 kcal less per day, 400 per day less, everything helps.

I think you should gain weight but that is just my opinion. I'm 5' 7" at 170lbs and I'm average for my weight class.

Do you use an app to help you with your diet or do you just read the package/labels? I use to add it up and make all my food. I was also into some serious lifting so I needed to calculate everything in order to gain muscle. Went from 115lbs to 170lbs.

Use nothing at all, I add up in my head. I roughly know the kcal of most things. Eggs 80, apples 80, potatoes 82., coca cola can 130, so forth and so forth.

went from size 36 (those jeans were starting to get tight was about to purchase bigger jeans) to size 30 jeans. the jeans pictured were 34's that I kept in my closet hoping to lose weight and be able to possibly fit into them again... guess I failed I don't fit in them anymore lol

main thing I did was ditch sugars. last soda I had was june also ditched juices.

coincidentally this was during my discovery of how easy it is to make bread @ home and how easy it is to make home made pizzas. I think I had more pizzas in this time than when my best buddy owned/operated a pizza place.

also this is when Wildstar launched and also some of my heaviest gaming sessions. by july I had 3 max level toons and a 4th on the way. wildstar launched in march/april

Basically It's  a high fat moderate protein and low sugar / carb  diet. I generally eat less than 10-15g of Carbs a day but nearly 120g of Fat. I couple it with intermediary fasting  (I don't eat before 10am or after 8PM) and it seems to work really well and I still have plenty of energy throughout the week.

  • 2 weeks later...

I couple it with intermediary fasting  (I don't eat before 10am or after 8PM)

for me, I took it farther, I did fasting weekends where I just gamed and didn't eat. my philosophy was the human animal as a hunter gatherer had to go through lean times. even in medieval times 3 square meals were things afforded to only the king or a village chieftan. heck "WINTER IS COMING" you're delusional if the human animal maintained a steady diet of fruits veg and meat all throughout the lean winter months, it would have been hard root veg and grains stored in underground cellars rationed out during the harsh cold.

hunger pangs were held at bay by drinking HOT water or any hot beverage. a hot drink can be felt inside your gut more and is soothing. also the occasional peppercorn, something spicy hot also helps keep the hunger pangs at bay.

doing this has made it very clear to me how much I ate out of habit or boredom. and the first time I did a fast I went through a weird phase of just wanting to chew on something... not to eat it but, I just wanted to chew. but now that I've done ti enough I don't get the weird side effects anymore I can do a fast at any moment at the drop of a hat, 24-48 hours no food? no prob no sweat.
