VagabondWraith reacted to SpaceGhostC2C in Intel’s 12 Core ‘Skylake-X’ Core i9-7920X ES Geekbench Performance Leaked
@MageTank you can have an alternative, two-side T-shirt as a consolation...
... on the front it says "My overclock is moderately stable"...
... and on the back "It passed Geekbench".
*runs to hide in trench bunker fallout shelter.

It's good to see that people live outside of the LTT forums and understand how things work in real life.
Just as it is in most things in life, it's the last 5 or 10% of anything that cost you the most in anything that enthusiasts are involved in.

2.2 Billion this past quarter for Nvidia. Earnings all the way up at a dollar a share. Margins improved, operating profit of over half a billion.
No real way to spin this anything other than amazing for Nvidia.

From your post history you sound like you drink shots out of Lisa Su's belly button every Friday night so I'm not surprised you disagree but tbh I wasn't trying to convince you, merely sharing what is reported.

VagabondWraith got a reaction from ApolloFury in Threadripper benchmarks breakdown
What's up with Tom Logan's power consumption? I mean, an overclocked processor will obviously pull more watts but holy sh!t this doesn't seem right. I haven't read Tom's full review yet to see what he was testing to get that number, bit holy moly that looks awfully high.

This is the EXTREME platform, for enthusiasts. If you want it to be all about value, buy the consumer grade stuff. Enthusiasts should be all about give us the best you can give us!
The case has NEVER been twice the price twice the performance, at this level you don't get value, you get shit tons of performance for a lot of money.
It's the same with cars, audio, all kinds of hobbies. When you want the little bit extra on top of the crazy extreme high end parts, you have to pony up and pay for it.

I think you might be drinking too much of the kool-aid bud. 16 cores running at the overclocks that it can in a monolithic design is pretty bleeding edge. No sure how you can find a way to credit one company without seeing the impressive stuff from another, but blinders will do that to all of us.
There's nothing magical from either company, but both are developing impressive parts. One chose an easier and more cost effective method resulting in higher yields with a better cost while the other continues to push the limits of what each individual core is capable of resulting in more performance from the same core count, which costs more.
Nothing wrong with either approach. It just boils down to if you prefer value to performance or vice versa.

No point explaining it. Some people are just too dense to ever understand.

Speaking from a purely performance standpoint, Intel will remain the strongest processor core for core and clock for clock for some time to come. It will also remain the more expensive option. That's just how shit works.
I don't see any real problem with people hoping that AMD does better as I want it to happen myself. The only problem I have is when we start theorizing what could happen in the future or just flat out exaggerating the current. Leave that shit for the future and the real experts.

VagabondWraith got a reaction from Fardin in Coffee Lake vs. Ryzen
I'd wait. I mean if you're not in dire need of performance right now at least wait a bit longer. Intel will announce Coffee Lake details August 21st. Ryzen is not going to go anywhere if Coffee Lake doesn't fit your needs. It'll still be a viable option after you learn what Intel has in store for CL.

VagabondWraith got a reaction from done12many2 in Intel i9 CPU's get the finalized specs announced
Here's another thing for those wondering where i9 came from:
This addresses an earlier debate on here: "You can trace Intel's path to its new Core i9 chip back to 2013, when the company decided to refocus its energy on enthusiasts. Up until that point, Srivatsa admits, Intel was paying more attention to new form factors, like ultraportables and convertibles, rather than innovating with desktop chips. The company noticed that enthusiasts were the one key audience that was "absolutely livid" that it decided to skip fifth-generation Core chips on desktops in 2014. Their anger was showed they cared far more about Intel's actual products than most other customers. So, it was probably a good idea to show them some love."

Yeah, I dug through their entire site and couldn't find it from Anandtech themselves. That 7920X table seems out of place.
I'll wait for the ones from Intel. They usually look like these.
It's a good thing that I never paid attention the very sad 3 GHz base clock on my 5960x. It'll gladly run 1.7 GHz higher than that (4.7 GHz at 1.28v) with all cores loaded.

The new i5 and i7 will be the new gaming king. I'd imagine the 8700K will give Ryzen a real run for its money for productivity.
So it's looking like i3 = 4c4t, i5 = 6c6t & i7 = 6c12t.
