laws against promoting addictive behavior in video games are very necessary, but their focus on online gaming as the source of the problems their youth are facing is probably at least slightly too shallow.

manikyath got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Does this vintage keyboard still have value?
the problem with these things is that while they might have *some* value, it's a market of extremely small demand (basicly only collectors that are missing this piece of something) so while there are a few of these listed for 200 bucks on ebay, the chance of one actually being sold for that in any reasonable timespan is essentially zero.

besides that - your keyboard is quite yellowed, and yellowed unevenly, so it's not a particularly good pick for a collector.

i'm gonna take a very solid guess that that's a mem-chanical (yes.. they existed way back when already) and the value of those is... essentially a thing thrown in with other stuff to sweeten a deal. you might find someone willing to pay money for those, you most likely wont.

by a power outage - no, actual damage is not gonna happen. worst that happens is that windows was just doing something important, and the power cut breaks windows.

the thing with HDD degaussers is they are validated to wreck the magentic field on the platters of specific technologies (that they are validated for) hard enough that realisticly there is not enough left to reconstruct any data. in theory there will be vague remanents of the original data, but it is impossible to distinguish those remanents from the noise around them.

Don't open psus, they're not meant for it.   Just use some air and it'll be fine.

you know, i've seen this myth repeated endlessly, but i've never been able to reproduce it with any fan. i'd be more worried about the bearing than about the potential of power backfeeding.

having that said.. just disconnect the power supply entirely (you'd want to do this outside anyways), leave it sit a day or two, stick something (toothpick, for example) trough the fan so that it doesnt spin about, and you can actually blow the dust off the blades, and then just blow air trough the vareous vents the power supply has.

Yup! The plan is to host WHALE LANs going forward so we've changed the name of this section instead of making another and keeping both around when an LTX sub-forum would not have had a use for the time being.

if i'm not mistaken it's an idea that started on WAN show while shit-talking whales on pay2win mobile games, and someone just proposed "we should have whale tickets" and the idea was, as advertised, that it was disproportionally more expensive for the extras offered, and named after the derogatory term for people who spend stupid amounts of money, just to press home the fact that those seats are poor value.

basicly, it's "dont buy this" front-to-back, but no matter how poor value you make your halo tier, there'll always be enough "whales" to fill it.. and why not if it offsets some of the costs for regular tier folks.

it's as much a jab at people's spending habits as it is a serious "halo tier" offering. basicly - it's like the balcony seats in a theatre, but instead of calling them "VIP" seats, they're called "we're fleecing you for money" seats.

and after that.. the branding just stuck i presume. i like the branding, i like the logo, and i like the premise that the "more money than brains" club pays for the party so that the admission fee can be a whole lot lower for those who have to save up to actually go there.

back when i worked at -some shipping provider- we had a prodcedre for destroying compactflash cards from firewalls that involved a pair of pliers in specific positioning. because we knew where the two chips in the CF cards were, and grabbing it the right way and just ripping it between the two pliers essentially shredded both chips.

it's an interesting space to do guaranteed data removal.

there's usually an order of operations and some finesse involved, it's different for every laptop so it's difficult to say how exactly. but it's been put together by humans, so your human hands should be able to get in there just the same.

you've probably got some issue with the charge port, as for which connector is the battery connector - it's the one with multiple black and red wires. with a multimeter you should be able to read the battery voltage. if it's been sitting discharged for a long time it might be below a safe voltage to recharge it.

as for the charge port issue.. if the port has no physical damage it might be a cable that wore out, it's REALLY common for the charger cable to wear out just past the charger's frame, or just before the connector.
