Since last update I've completed the PCI mount bar and painted all the aluminium for the case.

This is all the aluminium in the system after preping for paint, quite a lot more metal than last build.

The screws I bought for the last build started to surface rust not long after assembling, so this time I used a drill and sanding block to take off the original black paint and respray.

I wet sanded then hung the parts to dry.

I used double sided tape and a scrap length of acrylic to paint the screws.

Painted parts left to air overnight, assembled case pictures will be out tomorrow morning. I'm still waiting on a couple of things to arrive before the final build photos though.

With the case assembled and hardware installed, it's time to construct the watercooling loop.

I'm using the cutting tool provided in the kit from Thermaltake. This works really well, very quick and only gives a slight burr on the inner edge of the tube, that is easy to remove.

Started off cutting the straight runs to connect the radiators to each other.

First bend in place - connecting the left radiator to the reservoir. The bending insert and mandrel from Thermaltake made this a breeze.

All the tubing in place, apart from the top run from the motherboard block to the radiator. This run is actually longer than 1m (the length of the tubing pieces), so I will be using the flow indicators from Thermaltake to break up the length.

That could possibly be a nice toutch. I was thinking white instead of green for it look more "modern" but not modified so that it still looks stock

I was trying to find a good place to mount a SSD in my little brothers XPS 420 and thought that the Excelerator module could be a good place to mount it since he does not use it. So I took out the circuit boards and cut the one with the pluggs on it so that i could fit the SSD but still have the pluggs come out of the front so that it looks stock. Here are a few pictures:

    Hi guys,

So here is the effect after about 24 hours once fully dried!

I gotta say I wasn't expecting this but it's the perfect effect I wanted for this build

It seems like applying in a straight even motion looks a bit better than the random pattern I did in the corner of the panel. Also the oxidising patina by itself didn't do much to the poweder-coating. I wonder how it would affect bare metal

Anyways, here are the result. Next up will be applying it to the case!

    Thanks for checking it out!

    Cheers,

UPDATE: I have successfully modified the proprietary front panel connectors and swapped them with aftermarket standard ones. the power button, HDD led, and power LED still look like they are stock on the front, but they can work on any mATX motherboard now. that was the biggest problem with building with this HP tower but going to my local frys electronics and buying the front panel wiring harness for $5 fixed this problem and it still looks like a stock HP tower too. Bonus points for that

Finally got my work bench set in the basement. Unfortunately, I did not have a VGA cable or a graphics card in my 755, down there in the bottom left hand corner.  (there is a monitor behind that 2008 iMac)  The iMac is updating to 10.11.  I wonder how it will handle the updated OS

Thought I had an old HD3540 Silent in the 755 to start troubleshooting with.  Oh well, until next time.

    Hi LTT!
I'm sure many of you have seen Luke's video about building a test bench from an old case. I took an extra Rosewill Challenger case I had and created my own test bench. It came out surprisingly well though there is a bit of wobble that I will fix eventually. It took about 12 hours total although I was in no rush and I enjoy this kind of thing. I only spent about $15 on aluminum square tube and some packs of bolts. Overall it was a fun project but not for everyone. I have a bunch of experience with tools and a decently equipped shop. For anyone who is going to attempt this type of build, some advice: get some material for struts and to reinforce the bottom, the flat panel will warp without it. Also, the best tool to shape metal is tin snips although a 4" grinder is best for cutting large sections.

    The Build:
I would've shown it with an actual computer in it but I don't actually have any extra hardware and I didn't want to take apart my current PC.

just be extremely gentle when removing the bezel there are clips on the back side if i remember correctly, even tho all the screws are out its still hanging in there real tight, and don't lose the tint strips, they are white, one on the logo by the space bar and one up top where i did the holes. i use a plastic spudger tool to get that thing apart with out scratching it. and remember to use good products, i also made the paint very heavy on ther so it would not wear off scratch off etc. he has not scratched my finish yet so i assume since he playes on that thing every day i did it right. here i buy my friend a new keyboard and yet i have a shit 10$ wallmart board lol

well when on the go i can use the built ins or headphones, that's the way its set up, or if I'm gaming at home all my sound goes though my classic pioneer 1978 SX1010. but i did have a buddy over and we were able to use the large stereo for the game audio and the built in system for game chat with another friend. the system compatibility is great and useable in many configurations. The entire idea was to crate a system that was easy to pack transport set up and use, then not forget any parts and leave  them behind.

So i realized most people around here like to know the specs so ill go over that.

Cooler master cosmos 2 case (smaller one)
intel i7-4790 (the k was out of stock when buying)
2, 1 terabyte hard drives set for redundancy.

    asus z97 AR mother board
$5 optical drive in a discount bin (no box no hardware)
    125 watt dual channel amp
2, 4" kenwood classic speakers (great sound)
thermal take cpu cooler (nothing fancy)
    850 watt power supply
    2 EVGA 780s in sli
    1 zotac 750 for physX
built in insignia TV, chopped and modded
many fans for low rpm use but flows plenty of air

portability is great, its strong has secure handles and can be hauled in any direction with out breakage, biggest issue is how heavy it is, must be 70 pounds. some of my next mods will be to add in non spill able 12v packs in the basement that can run every thing for min 4 hours. that should add another 30 pounds but it will be different, why? because who needs a lap top
