Upgrading existing computer advice

Kyle2278

Hey im looking at building a new computer as my birthday is coming up and my parents want to upgrade my existing one.

Currently I have:

Intel core 2 quad Q9550

2 x Nvidia GTX 470

XFX 780i sli mobo

AX 760i psu

Corsair H100 cooler

8GB ram

128GB SSD

1TB HDD

160Gb HDD

Single 1080p monitor

I dont know if i should change my current GPU's or keep them and wether or not to go intel or amd for my next cpu. Also wether or not to go Nvidia again or AMD for my next GPU's if i upgrade.

The computer will be mainly used for gaming but will also be used for photo and video editing.

My new budget would be between $1500-$2500 ( I know its vague but it would be a present but i could also get money form my savings if i wanted to) So what would be a good build around this price range?

I live in Australia and have come up with these 2 builds:

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kyle2278/saved/2jiJ

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kyle2278/saved/2jiM

What do you think of them and should i change anything?

I already have a mouse keyboard and monitor so budget doesn't include these.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I like the intel build but you should get 2x gtx 760s in sli they would munch 1 770 and wouldn't cost that much more

A 8350 will have around the same performance when editing, so save a few bucks and get a 8350

I would just get a 8350 and save the money for your video cards there's like a 5% difference from 8350 to i7 and a 40%price increase, with the new consoles new games are really going like the core more then the power of the cores.

Thanks will probably go a head with the build then

Slow down there. Every build I've seen so far is more expensive than it needs to be.

What kind if editing are you doing? What's it for and what programs are you using?

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Editing will be 1080p videos and RAW photo images through various CS6 programs. I also may be using the computer to run some servers for minecraft etc.

Are you heavy on After Effects? Average length of the videos?

Not much after effects and vary from 20seconds to over an hour, but average probably 5-10min

No point getting a 8320 with such a high end 990FX mobo and cooler. Most 8320's cap at 4.4-4.6 ghz because of lower binning. Chances are the gamble with the extra money spent with the cooler and mobo will be wasted.

then he can just cheap out on everything, a lot of 8350s don't go past 4.7-4.8 GHz

8350's don't CAP at 4.7-4.8 ghz.

8320's do. 8320's average around 4-4.2 ghz oc.

I know some 8350s manage over 5 GHz but those cases aren't that often, but it doesn't really matter. if he has the cash for the 8350 he can guarantee himself an overclock of over 4.5 GHz so that's fine I guess, I just think it's smarter to go with the 8320 in my opinion.
