what is the difference between the RMx and RMi and do you have other reccomendations for a psu that can handlem 2 r9 390 and i 5 4690k?

The RMi has a slightly bigger/quieter fan than the RMx and it also has Corsair Link. Otherwise they are the same as far as I know.

I would go with an 850W for R9 390 CF and an i5 4690K.
