I was wondering how long (approx.) my 4TB Western Digital BLACK (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd4003fzex) would last.

About 1 more year than the warranty states under normal use usually.

 

Unless its a seagate drive where itll last ~3 months before needing to be sent back under RMA. I had drives with 2 year warranty that had to be RMA'ed 8 times... In  the same physical machine HGST drives that have been going for 3-4 years.

 

I am however an exceptionally heavy storage user. My (home pc)SSD usually accumulates 0.8-1.4TB of writes per month.

Assuming everything functions the way it's supposed to, at least 5 years. That's the point of the warranty - WD is basically saying the drive will last 5 years or they'll replace it.

Hey there cortexcortex,
 
The lifespan of a drive depends on many things, including the workload, environment, usage and handling. WD Black is a performance drive that is designed to sustain longer and heavier workloads in a more hostile environment. Because of this it has a 5-year long warranty and should last pretty long. 
HDD as mechanical units after all and as such failures do happen for one reason or another. This is why you should always have a backup of all your important files. Also do check the health of your drives every once in a while to make sure they are performing properly.
