looking for very good Headphones

Ginka
Go to solution Solved by KaminKevCrew,

The k612 is one of the best open back (at least, I'm pretty sure it's open back. I'm too lazy to look right now) headphones you can get for the price. If you want something that's closed back, you needn't look any further than the Sony mdr cd900st with a modmic/Zalman zmic. Those are some of the best and most accurate sounding headphones you can get for $200.

Hey guys,

I wanna buy new headphones with surround sound and built-in mic.

Budget : between 100 and 300 bucks :)
Any good suggestion ? I really like Sennheiser :)  My old HD200 is still working after more than 5 years of intense utilization ^^

I saw the Sennheiser 363D that looked great but I am not sure about the velvet --'

Anybody got this one ?
Any other suggestions ?

Thx :)

For surround, its basically just software when it comes to headphones. To get actual surround, speakers are technically the best for that since you actually have to place a speaker based on your position.

There are headphones that have attempted to put more than one driver on one ear-cup, but because its placed on a certain position, you won't get 7.1 or 5.1 anyways.

For headphones, I recommend the K612 Pro and a mod-mic.

Yeah... I don't think akg has ever made a headphone that's k_12 and closed back.

Does open back leak a lot of sound ?
I think I'll go for the k612 over the mdr cd900st.

Is the surround sound only a matter of software ?

For headphones, yes. For speakers, I think thats a different matter on its own.

Well, its impossible to design a real hardware-based 7.1 headphone because of design. The AKG K240 Sextett (which is no longer in production and replaced by the current K240's) had like 6 drivers per ear cup, or looked like it. Based on that, it could've been a legit 12.1, but it isn't and couldn't do it... unless we use software like Razer Surround (even the free version), then it can do 7.1 surround on headphone. So, yes, its software based.

Guys like Razer who market their stuff with 7.1 headphones are pretty much using it as a marketing gimmick.

Yeah, only a real thing in speakers.

Thank you guys, I owe you one ^^

I am about to build my first RIG (as soon as my new job start) so I have been reading a lot of stuff for the past 2 months to get the best stuff for my money and headphones was one of my major problem since I don't know s**t about sound. so thank you

So you would all recommend the k612 ? Is there any other options ?

I really like those one though ^^

I can go up to 250-300 bucks.
Is there good or bad headphones for surround sound ?

Edit : And concerning the cable, is it tough ? I don't think it is changeable. Am I wrong ?

I have been using my HD200 for so long only because I could change the cable. It would break eventually. I changed it like 4 times.

K612 should be just fine. If you're worried about the cable, you could go up to the k702/k7xx since they have removable cables.

Just be aware that it's somewhat of an insensitive headphone, so you might be well off getting an inexpensive amp with any money you have left over. (there are plenty of amps you can get for about $20 that would do just fine.)

Depends on your setup, and how loud you like to listen. But essentially, yes. Although from what I recall, the k7xx has a higher sensitivity.

Well, I'll tried it out, and if it is not enough I'll buy an amp.

Thx a lot ^^

Since you're in japan, look for ATH-R70X, lachlanlikesathing seems to adore the headphone as a smooth, relaxed sounding headphone
