Should I buy a 4k TV?

I'm in need of a TV for my bedroom and I've been waiting for 4k TV's to drop down in price a bit.

They have a 50 inch Vizio M series right now at Costco for $780.

I mainly want it for movies, viewing videos and pictures, and gaming.

I want to know if this would be a recommendable purchase or if there's any reason to wait out a bit longer.

I don't know much about 4k TV's or the features they have but I've seen them in display in stores and they are noticeably better looking than 1080p's.

Any advice from someone more knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated thanks!

They're better looking if you have 4K content to display on them. There's very little 4K content available, and basically no 4K TV (some big sporting events are starting to be filmed in 4K though).

I'd say it's worth going for though, it's only a matter of time before 4K content becomes more mainstream.

If you have the 4k money then get the 4k thing and be done.

From all the reviews i have read on amazon.com it seems the M series from Vizio is one of the best.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

So a TV is only as good as the media you play on it.

For example, my Play Station 2 looks terrible on a 1080p TV, because the max resolution the PS2 supports is 480i. Meaning the Tv has to "downres" or substitute pixels on the screen.

So if you have means of playing 4k video from Netflix, Youtube, or something else, get it and you will love it. But if you can't play actual 4k video on any device you would hook up to the TV, don't buy it.

Cheers!

I'm going to point out too that all of my playing around with YouTube TV has limited all content to a maximum of 720p, regardless of what resolution it was uploaded in. For 4K YouTube from what I can tell you have to use a PC

You are correct. The desktop version of Youtube is the only version that can play 4K video. Even 4k phones can't display youtube videos at that res.

4K Blu-rays should be out by the end of the year, if you live in the US Dish or Directv offer 4K set top boxes, but for cable it'll be a few years.

My recommendation would be to stay away from the Vizio model of the 4k.  Every Vizio I've had to deal with has had severe power supply issues and UI lag/Crashing. Sony has one of the best pannel/driver on the market, but you are also paying for it.  Samsungs only 4k tv's worth noting is their SUHD line..  Save your money and get a Sony.
