First time building anything nice

KiahAMA

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yhDF6h

I only have 1450 bucks to spend, anything over that is coming out of groceries.

The motherboard is Open Box on newegg right now. I'll be buying by the end of the week hopefully. I understand prices are always changing.

Hopefully down the line I can get something like a RM750i to replace the CX750 (even though I imagine this machine doesn't pull more then 450 even when gaming) and a Define R6 or something down the line to replace the budget case, and lastly eventually I'll need a HDD but not today.

Thanks!

Isn't it basically get x99 or wait for Skylake? This gets a mid range locked i5, then adds on all the stuff I said I wanted down the line and saved me 200 bucks. I mean that sounds great, but isn't this less fun? In a socket/chipset that's about to be phased out?

I don't need it yet. I'll just play the Witcher for now and I'm sure I'll have enough saved by when that's over to get myself some storage.

You don't need X99 for gaming, they offer almost no benefit. I'd rather get a platform that will get phased out than a platform that will give me zero benefits and end up with a lesser components to pay for the higher costs of motherboards, ram and etc.

Here what I would get, you really shouldn't be running without mass storage and a proper case and power supply at this budget for the braging rights of X99

This.. you could have a kick ass machine for less money.. Only reason for x99 is if your a HEAVY multi-tasker (like game plus stream plus many many tabs and so on) or use the rig for production work or similar.

Get what you need for your current / definate needs for the next year or 2.. things aren't progressing in the CPU space anywhere near what would make you upgrade a decent i5 for quite some time.

Most people on an i5 2500 or similar have basically no reason to upgrade.. That shows how little things have changed in the last few years.. and skylake won't be much different.

Also, if your playing on a 1080 60hz screen, the 980ti is way overkill and wasted really.

Whats your current system.. Also where do you live?

If your in US and near a micro centre then you can pick up (or at least could) a 980 and i5 / i7 k serises chips at a substantial discount.. But it's in store only.

If you want to spend the budget, I'd get something like this personally... less the GPU if your on 1080 @ 60hz as said..

If you want a kick ass gaming rig that will last you longer.. cut some corners, put the money aside and then bump the GPU in a year or 2... will give you better usable performance for longer.
