Which Intel CPU should I buy

So i'm thinking of getting an intel i5 4690K CPU, but that seems a little overkill for me. i could save a lot of money for an i3? What cpu should I buy, i'm looking at intel processors. I do lots of programming and web browsing. i also do light photo editing sometimes and I'm thinking of doing video editing and photo editing that uses more graphics memory, my current pc which is a prebuilt pc only has 256mb of vram. Sorry if i use bad computer vocab i'm a newbie

I think i'm going to do a little overclocking, but not immediately.

my dad says that I should find stuff that is more price to performance so I get more from the money say like if an i7 only has hyper threading and is like 100 dollars, that would not be good, so something with a good value. 500-600 is more like the highest I will let myself look for.

isn't that psu a little bit to low for a graphics card like that

The PSU is fine. The 960 just has a max. TDP of 175W I guess.

As a processor, I would use the i5-4660 instead of the Pentium G3258.

if you do not plan on overclocking, get the i5-4460 :)

I saw that cpu is more expensive than the 4690 or 4690K on the place I look at

In Germany the i5-4660 is about 173€(192$) and the i5-4690k 232€(257$).

I have no idea on which sites you're looking for your hardware but the i5-4660 should definitely be cheaper than the i5-4690k.

Always go with i7 if you can afford it.

I pretty sure it's not. I have an i7-4790k and a GTX 970 with a CX500M.
