Does Anyone Know How To Unlock Fan Speeds?

JakeCharman

Hi,

I'm using a Fujitsu motherboard and case for my testing PC. I would like to be able to change the fan speeds however the speed seems to be locked (OEM perhaps?). SpeedFan recognises the fans but nothing happens when the speed is changed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open configure, advanced, look for your motherboard, and change all the PWM settings to manual.  Now close that window and make sure Automatic fan speed is unchecked on the main window.  You should now be able to change your fan speeds.

One does not "unlock" fan speeds...

nope you're false, even 3 pins can be changed if the mobo supports reducing voltage on the fan headers

I believe you are correct, but lets be a little nicer about it in the future, alright? :)

Hi

Snip

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jake

I've never used that mobo but with my Asus there are settings in the bios to choose dc (3pin) or pwm (4pin) and also settings to create very basic fan profiles or enable manual control

Third pin is nothing but a tachometer.   If the board allows for voltage based control of fan speed then only two pins are even necessary.

Otherwise you do need the fourth pin - pulse width speed control.

Yeah I know, I was correcting him, two pins are only ever needed
